I'm 46 years old and basically new to this WIS stuff....Loved watches since I was about 10 yrs old and got hooked in Jan. 2005 after watching slop, JS and yes Eyal...My question is when you buy and sell your watches do you break even, loss $$ or make a small profit??? After reading Oscars post today about the Rolexes what watches (mfgr's) do you think "may" go up in value and do LE's really mean alot like the Doxa's, etc....Sorry for the stupid question - Thanks!!

Greg,

Yes,Yes,Yes:P thats to your forst question:D

Regarding going up in value.....to me the watches need to be made in small runs of less than 25 and most of those I will never be able to afford now or ever:)

1st question.......yes (all 3)

2nd question......some will go up, others.....not.  It's basically a guessing game, however, the real question is, does any watch appreciate enough to make up for the equivalent purchasing power of when the watch was bought.  I would say.......not often!  Even that Rolex one bought in 1992 which may be worth $1000 more today is actually worth less!

Buy them because you like them and they are a good quality time piece that will give you years of service.  If you want to make $ stick to something else land or so.  There are a lot of watches that do not depreciate or appreciate slightly, but do not count on it.  Have fun it is a hobby.  Some of my most prized watches are the ones that do not cost much and I can wear and have fun in.  That builds an intrinsic value that can not be measured by $.  All of that is a lot easier to say after having a decade or two in the hobby. My father started me off on automatics when I was 11 or so.
