Hello oagaspar,

Thankyou for your reply.

Last night before going to bed, I had thougt out why SJ does not have brandname and logo. That is:

+ If they have brandname and logo on caseback, leather and buckle; they will have to be pay more money for import taxation fee when importing SJ watches to US according to US regulations.

+ So, SJ watches are not being imported to US from swiss, germany, turkish, hongkong or anywhere else. SJ watches are being hand assembled in US. However, they only can make the name "Stovard Jurgenson 1887" on dial of watch. Other components such as movements, caseback, leather..will be get outside to US without logo or brandname.

+ That is why even though SJ watches are good with swiss, german movenmets, but the price is lower.

Do you think as I think ?

Indeed, I Still want a SJ watch with full logo, brandname even the price a bit more expensive.

Please reply me soon.

Nguyen Thanh Giang

I think Marc at Island Watch will be surprised to hear his watches aren't being imported. Marc is the U.S. distributor of the line and I assure you they are NOT assembled in the U.S.

I will let Marc fill you in on the details.

- So can You explain why SJ has no brandname and logo on caseback and strap ?

- I see you have so many nice pictures of SJ watches, but I sure, you also want your watches have brandname and logo.

- Marc is a good seller with  good service and SJ watches are good watches with accurate movenments from Swiss and Germany. The only one problem is what I pointed out. Do you agree ?

First of All Welcome to 3T Nguyen!................. As per our e-mail I too had wondered why the Stovard Jurgensons came without signed Straps and Buckles as we both happen to be big fans of SJ I have 3 ...all from different sellers and neither have the above mentioned...signed strap or buckle but do have the SJ on the Dial...this is a good question imho and don't believe Nguyens theory/observation (which was in an e-mail to me that I asked Nguyen to post) is in any way condescending of Marc at IW...we all know Marc is the Best...the only SJ I own with a model # on the caseback came from Marc!hand6.gif So maybe Marc knows why they ship without signed straps/buckles and in some cases casebacks...

U guys are funny. The answer is the usual stuff.

No logo on strap since this costs money and makes the watch more expensive.

Sometimes they engrave the casebacks, sometimes they don't. Why? Why not? Why do some watch companies make watches with absolutely no logo on them at all. Why did the NY Yankees jersey's never have the players name on them (I think that was in the past - I'm not a sports person)

I assure you they are imported. I pay a hefty import fee, AND, have had shipments rejected by US customs back to the sender for improper marking. I have a post under 'What Swiss Made Means'; here is the gist:

Yes, watches are SUPPOSED to have all the proper markings, but DON'T. Its kinda like speeding, everyone does it, but not everybody gets caught. When you do, you obey the law for a bit, then continue to speed again. Complying with these laws is VERY expensive. And even reputable watch companies fall victim to it. . .

Vostok Europe had a shipment of 2000 watches rejected earlier this year for improper markings. Every watch had to go back to Lithuania to be properly marked.

So, does that answer the questions?

Thanks-
Marc

Ty Marc!...I believe this is well known by many WIS that not all straps are signed or casebacks engraved....but more expensive to have a signed strap/buckle over one stamped Hirsch?there are many much less expensive Brands than SJ that have these items..to many Collectors (myself included) a signed strap and or buckle is pretty important and maybe a suggestion to SJ about this is in order as I feel SJ is a great Brand imho...hand6.gif U guys are funny. Great product, great design, horrible people to deal with.

Yup, even lowly Trias signs all their buckles and straps.

You know who else does? MarcelloC (shameless plug!)

In defense of designers out there, creative types tend to be eccentric. I do not know for sure just a theory, and I can not wiat to get the MarcelloC's that you are newly selling, Marc.  The Trias and SJ watches that I purchased from you are great Swiss pieces also.:D:D:D

I just get so happy on Monday mornings, time to back to work, remember the eccentric thing.smile8.gif

Dear Marc, OAgaspar and everybody

I always highly appriciate Marc since I bought one SJ from him. But he is only a distributor, not a manufacturer.

I believe that my opinion is a good opinion that Okten should do.

Marc, please inform me as soon as you have new signed strap for SJ watch. I  am ready to buy it or  one more SJ watch.

Thankyou all.
