I have looked at them and considered one, but passed as their design, to me, was too familiar and their price a little high for a start-up! |

You know they do have several pieces in the works including a less expensive design using the SW200 movement. If their price is too high for a startup, why is the same price OK for another startup? Just curious if its the familiarity of the case or it goes beyond that... |

What other start-up are you referring to? The Oceans 7 watches, to the best of my knowledge are in the $600 and up range on a strap....SS Bracelet is $80 to $100 additional! When you consider the range of ETA2824-2 and Val 7750 timepiece in that arena from Tissot thru Victorinox, Wenger, Movado, Hamilton....et al, the Ocean 7, with no history of quality production or customer service, yes, I think they are overpriced! Ocean & has only one piece in production, the LM-1, all of the others are still on the drawing table, not finalized...........kinda like Hendersen's approach to the 3T ORSA! As I understand it, one can pre-order, site unseen, for $100 or so less per piece and then there are 2 preorder prices....one for former "good" purchasers and another for those who have ordered and accepted previous delivery! If you are referring to ORSA (as the other start-up), I like the design. If you are referring to the outrageous price that James tried to gouge us with, I was pissed, but agreed to it as it was the "3T" watch. And as a "start-up", ORSA has actually been producing watches for some time, albeit they are only into their 5th (I believe) automatic model. When they produced their 1st watches, they were in the less than $200 arena and their 1st atuomatics were less than $400. As to design...............I think (jmo) that they are a little mundane. That said, I really do like the LM-2 (in preorder but not yet in production), but unfortunately, it is in Ti, of which I am not a big fan unless it's a golf club! |

Ken, I was referring to the start-ups from Hawaii and Colorado. I want to be careful in saying I'm not trying to pee in anybody's Cheerios, but I think I am not alone in having a hard time paying near 8 bills for a startup regardless of who they are. And please don't get me started on Orsa... I am doing my best to let bygones be bygones. I wouln't consider them a start-up any longer. |

IMHO I don't think being a start-up Watch Co.should have any bearing on price....there are many start-up Watch Cos. in the 5 and 6 digit price categories that are having no problems selling their wares...I don't think anyone can comment on a Brand until they have experienced it 1st hand....that is why I belong to a Watch forum so I can hear from others who have and therefore make an educated purchasehand6.gif Not everyone shares the same tastes or are willing to pay more for what they want(therefor there are homages)....each WIS has a comfort zone they are happy with and being a Watch enthusiast leaves lots of room for growth if that WIS choses to do so....I will say from experience that not always paying more gets you more...but at $795. I would be searching the forums for a Stowa Seatime instead...there are Ocean7's already selling for less on the sales forums ....remember not every Watch becomes a Dreadnought and quadruples in price!time2.gifBuy what You like based on your research and experience learned on these forums...and most of all read and learn from those who really know and not those who only want to sellwatch2.gifjust my nickle:D |

Yep...............I know exactly what you are talking about. As a matter of fact, with all the great watches out there, I have a hard time with 8 bills on a name brand ETA 2824-2 based machine! As to ORSA, I believe Berg is taking a step in the right direction :) |

I too hope Berg is moving in the right direction. I do however think he would get a lot further if he came on this forum with a statement and an olive branch. I don't hate the guy... heck, I don't even know the man other than through his watch offering wihich i do like. What I was/am unhappy about is two fold. The situation with the 3T Festivus and the fall out from that. C'mon Berg!! You know you have fans of your watches here... sack up and let's hear your side!! |

No...............don't know what happened............as I said.............with JH's level of integrity, I would look to see him on the Invicta payroll. Add to that, his level of knowledge and he would be a perfect replacement for the waning JS.........aka, "Sad Sack"! |

It seems the start-ups get a cult following and then either make the next jump of blow it. I am with you... more cha-ching is not always more watch but sometime the adage "you get what you pay for" is painfully true. And I have to agree...buy what you and you alone like... and for cry-eye...wear 'em and share 'em!! Last edited on Sat Jan 13th, 2007 12:17 pm by Paxman |

Yes, it is well put.........but the old "get what you pay for" adage is a triple edged sword, as many times you get more than you pay for, and many times, less than you pay for. Here is my problem with Forums and start up watches............when someone pays "up the nose" for a start-up watch.........his post (normally) are going to be very favorable. Many, if not most, of us would be very reticent to post and admit to others (and even ourselves) that we were duped, disappointed, way over paid, yadda, yadda, yadda! So most of the intitial reports are going to be very favorable. It is usually weeks later that the watches are posted for sale at a loss by someone who "loves the watch but is selling to get a grail"! JMHO, but payin 8 bills for a watch not even in production............is risky! |

As I don't purchase the volume of watches 3T members do..I like to make each purchase count..that's why I ask tons of stupid questions so I can make a good choice.... |

Well, just wanted to chime in, as being one who paid almost 8 bills for a pre-production watch from our friend in Hawaii. While I could have bought others at that price like a Stowa, I liked the design and figured I was helping a fellow WIS in his startup by purchasing one (also a guy to whom customer service is more important than making a buck). And, in case u couldnt tell from my avatar, I have pre-ordered the Ocean7 LM-2. IMHO, a great design, which was influenced by those on the Ocean7 forum. While it does have a striking resemblance to the Glycine Lagunare (retailing at twice the price), their are enough unique design features to make it a worthwhile purchase (translation - will get a lot of wrist time). Bottom line is, as was said here earlier, I buy a watch because I like it and want to wear it (regardless of the brand, cost or cult appeal). Anyway, just my two cents guys... Steve H. |
