My granddad passed away a few weeks ago. Went to his house to clear things up. I found this watch that was given to my mom for her sweet sixteen b-day. Its 14K and is a Hamilton. But does not run correctly, When wound, it runs REAL fast. Like 1-hour for every 3-4 minutes. You can hear it chugging along. Is this watch worth the money to fix? Mom does not want it. Wife likes it though.![]()

does it have the 14k mark on the caseback? If so, have it cleaned and regulated. Or you could have the sucker melted down and made into a nice ring for the wife:D I vote to melt it.

Yes it does. It also has it on the braclet clasp. I took the back off it to take a look. It has 14k on the inside and is machined swirled. Also the movement says Hamilton. Now that you mention it, I do have alot of gold pieces of broken jewlery in a small box. I guess I could have it melted into one big chunk of gold. Wear it around my neck like Mr.T, LOL. That's a nice looking Hamilton Dave...Congrats! It must be a mechanical hand-wound....and running that fast it probably needs much more than an adjustmenthand6.gif Inside where the 14K is stamped should be another # maybe a serial# that will help in identifying the year it was made and possibly a model!cool10.gif

Yes it says=Hamilton W.CO. Then DS&S H (Looks like) 585 and a trademark, Then LANCASTER,PA. Then 14K, Then 858264, Under that-64452, Then finally -L&W. The movement has USA 761 AND 22 JEWELS. I tried to adjust the speed to the slowest setting, but it still runs Fast. Last edited on Thu Feb 8th, 2007 10:38 pm by daanbc |
