So - here's the deal ... I've got a bunch of higher-end auto and mechanical pieces (Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Oris, etc...) but I'm looking to purchase some less expensive pieces to add to the collection ... you know, the kind of watch that looks great, is accurate - no quartz please!!! - and most of all, wearable on the weekends while biking, or just relaxing. I've looked into the new Timex Auto, but I'm looking for some others ... What do you guys have for such occasions? What can you suggest? It's almost weird how we have come to know the expensive mechanical watches, but know practically nothing about the less pricey ones! Thanks! |

There are some nice Russian mechanical and auto pieces in the couple hundred dollar range that would fit the bill - a variety of styles and most are good beaters... Vostok and Poljot in particular... Well if your not working on your car, wear what you have. If I need to wear a watch doing something that could cause damage, I wear a inexpensive quartz like a Invicta. But if I'm boating, or racing bikes at 160mph+ I prefer to look good when I wreck so I'll wear a high end watch. Home owners insurance covers personal property weither its at home or at the beach. Nothing gets you better treatment at the er, than a Omega on your wrist!hand6.gif |

1st of all Welcome to 3T Watchguru!! I think looking at the Seiko Orange or Black Monsters would be your best bet ...priced low...looks high and is well built at any pricehand6.gif |

Gotta agree with Oscar on the Seiko Monsters for very low end auto beaters and high end look. It might help if we knew a orice range that you considered lowere end. And, I do no believe the average Homeowner's Policy will cover watches as the are considered jewelry under most insurance terms....they must be placed, individually, on a rider to the policy. Some policies do have a heneral jewelry clause that will cover up to +/- $4k not to exceed $1k on any individual item (less deductible). |

I may check it out ... It's funny you should mention the G-Shock Gregger - that is what I have been wearing as weekend beater lately... I must say, it's a cool watch.
