My oldest trashed an automatic at work, I don't think its his fault, yah right. So I took it back to keep and repair and gave him this on a Watchadoo. I don't think this one will comeback damaged:D![]() |

I am trying to get both of mine into it, I don't ever want to see them using a cell phone to tell time! My youngest has a mil style Timex that he wears now and again (he's 9), and my oldest has his own watch box :D His favorites are a Citizen RR Approved (he's a rail buff) and a yellow "Ray" diver he stole from me last summer. I have his first auto waiting in the wings, an Orient I picked up for 40 bucks on the 'bay. Cheers, Griff |

I gave both my sons watches on their 16th birthdays... my oldest got this Tag Heuer Sel (but with a charcoal dial):![]() and my youngest got this Tissot PRS516: ![]() They both only have the one watch each - gonna have to provide them some fatherly guidance on the advantages of owning a 'few' spares (:shock:).. |

My son and daughter, both in their early 30's now, have come to expect a watch from me on significant holidays. Both have collector watch boxes now and I suspect they are only indulging my addiction in a very codependant way. |

My son and daughter are into watches and enjoy receiving them most:D My son is a creature of habit and has an open door to any of my watches but he likes 40mm for size and mainly divers...Silver or black dials and has been wearing a 1st gen Invicta S1 in silver for 3 years now...runs fast but he enjoys setting the time and will only wear automatics...bracelet has been changed 3 timeshand6.gif My daughter likes watches with wide straps and has 8 watches of all different styles and makes now in her collection...pink is her favorite color on a watch even at 18 yrs. old :).... both kids like watches and support my habit...if Horology/Collecting watches rubs off it would only be a good thing imhowatch2.gif:) |

My oldest daughter, 17, could care less what time it is - but since she is always running late for things, she should prob get used to wearing a watch. My youngest daughter, 16, loves pink as well - and believe it or not, she has had two Invictas, one of which was pink MOP dial on a pink strap. Right now she has a Michelle chrono with blue dial on a black strap, but she keeps hinting about another pink one.... that's my girl! hearteyes.gif O.A. The things that one is exposed to along the path of life makes an impact even if ever so slightly. There is no joy greater than to pass on to ones children the appreciation and love for something that one values. Have a good night. Sean I hope your son enjoys the watch, I am sure it will not be the last. |

When I bought my Submariner, I knew Brandon (little guy on left) would be getting it one day. . . My dad's got a nice collection of watches that I know he intends to hand down one day. Marc |

Am sure he will love it Marc... my dad had some nice vintage Hamiltons (drove by the factory in Lancaster, PA many times growing up) - which I would have loved to have, but my mother sold them off before I could grab em. She said, "I didnt know you liked watches"... IW wrote: When I bought my Submariner, I knew Brandon (little guy on left) would be getting it one day. . . |

Boy, does that STINK!!! Well, they know I love watches. They thought I was NUTZ when I bought this in the Cayman Islands in 1988 for $60. . . pretty much the watch that started my insanity. What's yours? ? ? (open question!) Attachment: Tissot_2_timer_sm.jpg (Downloaded 47 times) |

Well for me, it was an old Raymond Weil watch I bought back in 1980 from an AD here in Orlando... still have the watch, stored away, but no pic. It looked alot like the Piaget Polo:![]() very thin and narrow. Course my 'disease' didn't really start to progress til couple of years ago (mid-life crisis??)...:shock: IW wrote: Boy, does that STINK!!! Well, they know I love watches. Most people just vomit when they see it - I see beauty; an intertwining of analog and digital, in a skeleton fashion. I haven't met a sole that likes it; strange. I used to have it on a clear band, but it turned yellow. I was able to get this black band from Tissot, but now-a-days its getting impossible to find bands for it. I bought a Citizen high line chrono quartz on a cruise in 1992 and wore it through 3 battery changes before it died in 2002 and the jewler talked me into a Tissot Ballade automatic. That was the start of my WIS education. I no longer have either watch. Last edited on Sat Mar 3rd, 2007 11:32 pm by Edgel |

This is a great thread! My son only 8 is already eyeing what I have in my collection. He is starting to develop a taste, he knows what watches he likes in my collection. Also whenever he catches me looklng at watches on the Internet, he tells me if he likes them or not too. Right now he likes my watches that lume well, at this time that would be my Bathys - (passing up the Rolex and Omega at this point LOL! ). Eiither way he and my daughter will get my watches one day to pass on. All they know now is that watches are one of my hobbies, and something to hopefully remember me by later in life. :) |

The watch in the middle is the one that got me started (not my photo, mine is in better shape with original crown and sweep second hand). I was a BIG Indy car fan growing up, and my dad got us tickets for the very first USAC Champ Car race at Pocono (the Shaefer 500, Mark Donohue won, though I was rooting for A.J. Foyt and Jim Hurtubise). Of course I wanted a chronograph, specifically a Heuer Carerra, but my folks couldn't afford to buy me one even if they would give a 8 year old an expensive watch! My grandmother stepped in and gave me the Endura "chrono-stop". It isn't really a chronograph but the pushers do start and stop the second hand. It has a 7 jewel Swiss pin lever movement, and I still have it. It desperately needs a cleaning, but no watchmaker will even look at it, quote: "can't get parts", unquote. It doesn't need parts, it runs and stops because it has 36 years of dirt in it! Cheers, Griff Attachment: Endura.jpg (Downloaded 21 times) |
