Hey All, Those who have quartz timepieces....do you change the batteries yourself? I have a few quatrz watches that are in need of batteries, but I'm concerned about the water seal - especially for my ESQ diver. All of the watches have screw down backs and crowns. Is there anything I need to be sure to do if I decide to change them myself? Or should I just pay someone who knows what they're doing to do it for me? I would have a professional do it to make sure the water resistance is maintained, imho. I don't change my own quartz batteries, regardless of the water resistance issue. (I do however change the batteries on my automatics...:shock::shock::shock:)

The truth is a good LG tool is about $50 and convenient as all get out. The pro is not going to change the seal out usually any way, unless you ask and pay. If it is the first bat. change use some silicon lube on the rubber o-ring. It puts moisture back in it and it reduces the friction on the ring when it is being reinstalled. once you do a few you can get an assortment of O rings cheep and change them out your self. If you purchase batteries wholesale they are around 50% of retail just for the battery, plus it gets you deeper into the hobby. That's the only tool I use. Fantastic for the money. Never scratched a watchback. I just ordered the CO-650 (not from them; I have a biz supplier) which you can use in conjunction with the hand tool for those "stubborn" casebacks. And batteries. . . its a shame what places charge! Radio Shack gets $4 a battery. If you look hard enough, you'll find places with batt's for 40 cents! I have one at the house. Its getting the adjusters tight 1st thats the trick. Had one come loose and scratched a caseback. Snapon makes a tool for taking off gm antennas. It can be expanded to fit a watch back. Its a much better tool. and less expensive.

Where were my friends then???  I keep it in the center console of my car as a reminder that even the best of us must learn from experience!Okay, I also have an Invicta Date-Master GMT.............again, where were my friends? OH yes, and my Seiko SNA281 Chrono.....but that was a Christmas gift from my wife who didn't know any better.............and my "friends" advised me not to say anything to her!!!
