Just thinking.....How long have you guys been coming to watch forums???? I've only been doing this for 2 1/2 yrs and was wondering what the life span is of a watch forum guy....I still see a lot of the names when I first got started and some just dropped off the face of the earth.....Basically you get to know and make friends with the people on the forums and then one day....... poof.....they are gone...Just thinking that's all!!!!

Same amount of time as you.

I actually got started when I was doing research on a Stauer watch (which I didn't buy!)

Interest in watches goes back many years.  Time on forum....about the same as you!

Started out with high end watches but found there is a lot more fun in the under $500 arena with the occasional foray into higher $ !

I started on the old Invicta Forum on WUS when  jim.s was a Mod and known as Oopa Lupa. That's where I first met Oscar and a bunch of the others on 3T. That was in 2002 I think. Times have sure changed since then.

I started around 2002 or '03. Researching Invictums, my first automatic watch. Was just bored at work one day and started surfing the 'bay for Rolex look alikes. Found WUS in the pre-Oopah days, I think JBHIII@*$#&!@ was a moderator still.

Been on the forums about a year but digging watches since I was a teenager. During my ultra-rebelious years the idea of a watch was out of the question.

Now that I'm a middle aged dork I'm back...

I've only been here for a couple of months, but I'm finding it very interesting and informative.  It's interesting that some of you talk of making "friends" through such forums ...  I was just teaching one of my grade 11 classes about social groups and how they've become national, and even global today ... Certainly such a forum/group would apply.

Happy Thursday! :)

Just got into this all recently. Always had a fascination with time pieces, clocks and watches of all sort going back to my childhood. ;)

But my love for it is growing more by the day. Or maybe a better word would be lust.

'Bout 3 years ago when I got into the business. Started on PMWF then WUS - got pointed here a bit less than a year ago, and this is where I've been.

Perhaps I should have mentioned the watch that started it all:

Poljot Shturmanskie C purchased from Island Watch.

November of 2005.  That is when I got back from Disney right after Hurricane Wilma with a fogged Zippo watch and was angry with the jeweler who botched my battery change and didn't replace the gasket.  I was determined to find an inexpensive mechanical to avoid future battery changes.  I found Russian Vostok watches on the 'Bay, then WUS Russian forum, then PMWF and WUS affordables and now I am here!

I have loved watches since I was a kid, but so much other stuff got in the way first, my band/musical instruments, hi-fi gear, then grad school, marriage, kids, then Zippos...

Cheers,
Griff

This is my first year in watch forums, the only other one being WUS.  I was awakened to being a watch guy by my brother.  It's the only men's accessory I like and will indulge in.

I have participated in other forums such as Handgun Forums where in I was even a moderator, this was a hobby I was deeply into a few years ago, but because of job and family too busy to hit the range.  I find there are some similairites between watches and firearms that I relate to, in both I admire engineering and design.  I find I am having more fun in watches though, and I do believe my wife agrees wtih it more, LOL!

How about since this month!  I've been interested in fine watches since 1999, bought my first one then, but only began looking about watch forums this March.
