After a family style dinner at Maggiano's (google it - great place for italian food), stopped by a local AD for Omega, Tag, Hamilton, Tissot etc to try on a few items (Planet Ocean, Seamaster GMT etc). I was looking very closely at the GMT and was amazed when I looked at the lume on it. The application of the lume was uneven, lumpy and made it look 'cheap' for a $2500 watch. I asked the owner about it - he said, noone in his 25 years in business ever noticed something like that or asked about it. I happened to be wearing my Orsa 3T Sea Angler and showed him the outstanding job Kent did on the lume. He quickly changed the subject and started calculating a price on the PO for me (and before you ask, no it didn't come home with me - not yet). Question I have is, is that normal to expect on a watch of the quality of an Omega or am I being too picky? |

I think after you see what kinds of watches can be had for under 1000, you start to think differently of all the mid-upper tier watches. I will say that watch afficionados are the biggest critics of lume I have ever come across. Regular customers never mention lume, its brightness, application, etc. . . but watch forum folks always seem to comment on it! (good or bad). |

There is an article somewhere on the internet that compares a Seamaster Professional to a Seiko 009 and I remember it making a point about how much better the lume and paint on the Seiko dial were done. The Seiko bezel recieved higher marks as well. |

He only had one GMT in the case so nothing to compare it against. Interesting side note, looks like my wife will be working parttime at this jewelers - can you say 'employee discount'? :cool: She used to work at Bailey, Banks & Biddle- where employees could buy direct from the manufacturer at a discount of 50% + 20% off MSRP, which was how I got my Tag SEL(which my son now has). My Seamaster is perfect in every way and is far better than any watch I own...maybe it was made on a Monday after a Swiss Hoilday...... :D |

That's why my SMP is at Kent's evan as we speak for reluming the dial and hands. I love the watch but the factory lume left something to be desired. |
