Nothing caught my eye in the older posts so I'll ask.  Will a numbered watch compel you to buy it more.  Especially a low number?  I noticed  a couple of my russians are numbered (a new trend?) and while I think it's cool it really wasn't a decision maker for me. On that note, Oscar and I have the same watch and I wonder what # he has.

No, I don't think so.  I wouldn't buy any watch I wasn't interested in.  If, on the other hand, it was a watch that was compelling to me....  I might use the numbered piece to justify it in my own mind and that of my wife.

coyote2.gifAll kidding aside it's completely secondary to actually liking the watch in the first place.

I would say at least a third of my collection is limited edition or limited production watches.

Many of the Russian watches now are limited edition watches. All 6 of mine are.

I also have a RLT38 with is number 7 of 11 world wide. I like to grab up LE watches. The Formex I just picked up is a LE too. ;)

You also have to be careful in how the word "limited" is defined. I've seen some watches claim a limited edition of 5000 pieces. That hardly qualifies as limited. I seem to recall a discussion on this topic some time ago. I suspect it is more a function of how limited the limted edition is not necessarily what number is on the watch. Maybe #1, #last, #69, #666 may resell for more?

It means a lot to many but it means nothing to me. I don't consider an LE an LE unless it is 100 units or less. Maybe stretching it to 250 units but not over that level. I never buy the watch just because it is an LE. I buy it because I like it. One example, the 3T Orsa. The LE status had nothing to do with me wanting it. I wanted it because it is a kicking watch that is exactly the type of watch I dig.

If it were a regular production watch I would of still bought it in a heart beat. I do wish it would get here though. If I know there is gong to be a LE run on a watch and a regular run, I will most always go for the regular run and save some cash. One example of this will be one of the few non-dive watches you will ever see me buy when I can get one of the Timefactors PRS-20 Italians. I actually prefer the regular model over the LE model as it has a solid case back as opposed to the exhibition case back. Plus did I mention it is cheaper?

Oh yeah I'm all about if I like it I buy it (or want it). The numbers are just a bonus if they're there. It's a good point about quantity. I've often wondered if a series of 2000 JLC watches will sell out quickly or not and what's the point?  I understand celebrating milestones with anniversary editions but limiting numbers just to create demand or increase prices is just piracy.  Not that everyone does that I'm just saying is all.

Hi All

I like numbered editions but not the determining factor in buying the watch. I have a coulpe numbered Russians but they are very diffenent in numbered runs. Have a Vostok Europe in a series of 3000 not so special but I like the watch anyway. Have a Buran in a run of 999. A little more special. I would have bought them anyway even if not numbered.

Have a Sea Angler comming and that will be very special. Not sure if its numbered or not. Would be special either way.

So I guess my answer is , if its a special watch the numbers dont matter at all. Just an extra.

LE or numbered editions are a secondary bonus to getting a watch I love. Not a deciding factor for me. One happy accident was my Doxa 750t Pro which I gor in the COSC version. without knowing came to find there are only 100 of the COSCversions out of the 5000 unit run. Now that was just lucky!!
