Hi all,

I want to pick up a flashlight (torch for those of you across the pond) for supercharging the lume on my watches.  I've looked at the myriad of options on the bay, some with as many as 52 LED's.  What works better, regular LED's or UV LED's?

Prices seem very reasonable for either option.

Thanks.

UV works best for charging lume... supposedly.
I have a couple of UV "torches" and I like them a lot!
I don't have any regular led ones to compare to though!

Either a UV or LED will get the lume pretty bright, but remember with SL it will fade after a short while and you'll be left with still bright but not nuclear lume, if your purpose is to see the time in the dark.  Now if you just want to get it as bright as possible, I think UV is the way to go, but again, after 15 minutes, the levels will be comparable.

Being a lumn nut, I use both UV and LED. I also have a natural light lamp that REALLY works well.

I have found that not all lumn charges up the same. I have a Russian watch or two that I had been using my UV flashlight/torch on. The hands never quite popped. So, I tried a my 23LED flashlight one night and was stunned at how much better the watch glowed.

The reverse was true with my Graf Zep. watch. Its lumn came to life much brighter with the UV and the natural light lamp I have.

The natural light lamp seems to work the best, but it is not portable. So, I use my 23LED most.

That said, I'll wear my Traser with the gas tubes if I really need to see the time all night. :)

I third that. I have one as well and it is the best source for making lume glow like crazy. It's cheap too.

All right, now I just ordered one of those.  Man, we must all really have a sickness to order a special tool just to charge the lume on our watches!

Boy, do I feel like a dork!  All this time I've relied on natural light or the lightbulbs in my bathroom/nightstand.  All my WIS friends must have been making fun of me behind my back.  How will I ever show my avatar on the forums again?

Light bulbs? How utterly pedestrian.

;)

I know how you feel I have an LCD with a measly 9 bulbs, and I just ordered the 21 bulb model.  It is truly a sickness.;)

Thanks everyone!  Much appreciated.  I'll be ordering one UV and one regular.  Why not, the price is right.
