I'm curious, what is the reason for a watch winder?  Is it to keep the watches ready to wear or is it something to do with the mechanics of an automatic?  The reason I'm asking is that I have  3 autos and no winder and I'm not sure if I'm doing them a disservice.  Recently I've been thinking about buying a winder but I'm not sure if it's necessary and if not I could put that money toward buying another watch.  Any information or opinions would be appreciated.  Thanks

I'm given to understand that it helps prolong the life of the lubricating oils. They do break down over time as all oils do, but keep the oils moving and working will keep them from breaking down faster.  If  you let it sit for to long you risk it gumming up your engine (so to speak)

If you do not get a winder, just wind them 20 or so turns once a week and wear them in some type of rotation to help combat pooling of the oils.

Orbita Sparta is a great winder for the money and they usually go for around $150 for a single and will correctly wind any auto you will ever add to your collection.  Like a fine watch do not ever skimp on the winder, a cheep one can do more harm than good if you do not know what you are doing.

Orbita is an American Co., so I have supported them for many years.

Have a good one.
