I bought a Debaufre back a few months ago and have wore it almost daily since. Love the watch...

Review here...

http://www.timetechtalk.com/view_topic.php?id=8749&forum_id=2&page=1

Unfortunately it has had an accident, completely due to my NOT thinking clearly about taking it off while walking.  My cousin was in town and as we walked towards the restaurant he asked me to take it off to look at it. The smart thing to have done would have been to wait until we had entered the restaurant and were seated. In the hand off...it dropped and hit the sidewalk.

DING!

I was saddened to say the least and I'm curious if there is a way I can touch it up or have it touched up somehow. My pictures aren't that great but hopefully they capture the scuff. I thought I might need to send it back to Debaufre...but not sure if that’s necessary. Will probably call them in a week or so.

The first pictures I took trying to capture the ding...were failures due to the flash. The watch looked as pristine as ever. LOL Hopefully the following pictures without the flash do a better job of showing the damage.

You can see bare steel.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have a cape cod cloth? I would try that. It may not get the ding out if its that deep, but it might be enough to blend it in so it'd not as pronownsed. You may also have to do the whole watch to feather it in.

Good luck.

Never heard of a cape cod cloth but I'll research one now!! Thank you!

Hmmm, this sounds like it just might do the trick! I found a description on Amazon. Sounds like very fine steel wool with a polish compound.

Ouch... sorry to see that.  Risk you run with PVD coatings;  dont know if the cape cod cloth will help or not, worth a shot - but you may have to have the case refinished.  Let us know what happens.. :(

I shot a picture of this to a buddy of mine and his immediate response was....why not just ship that top case to someone and have it refnished? I took a minute to try the tool that came with the watch and low and behold...it actually DOES come off. So in theory....I could have this shipped to someone and have it bead blasted, re-coated, etc.

The problem is...I have no clue where to send it off to for that kind of work. Any ideas? I actually wouldn't mind possibly creating a one of kind in the process!! LOL

Case top removed and much better pics of the damage.

why not just see if you can get that piece seperately from the manufacturer? worth a shot...

BTW:IWW is only taking in select Panerai pieces for PVD coatings as of now. I just received an email from them stating this. I was going to have a watch coated, guess not nowmistake.gif

You're right, it is. I'll try them in the morning and see if that is even a possibility and inquire as to the cost.

I see a bunch of suggestions, but the obvious one is to call DeBaufre and talk to them before anything else is ventured!

I shot them an email. Talking to them could prove very dangerous.

Knowing me I'd end with a new crown and another watch to boot. :P

Oh Greatmistake.gif! Now you've gone and done it. The last thing any of us needs is an excuse to buy another watch:D.

Pisser!! Talk to the manufacturer and let them offer a solution. If and when that fails have the case refinished. And watch the handoff!!mistake.gif

I really like that new model they have. Have always liked squareish cases with rounded edges but the dials don't have that little extra. But this new one is getting closer, atleast it made me look twice.

FYI, I did get a response from Jack over at IWW and he confirmed they are not accepting parts but entire watches only...

"We are only able to accept complete watches for PVD coating at this time."

Good to know at least!

I'm not to keen on the new Airforce watch face. I like my old one better.

As a temp fix, try using black touch-up paint of perm marker to blend it

I know the feeling - I had to send my 3T Orsa back to have the date wheel adjusted as it was hanging up.  But just think you get to look forward to the rush of getting it back again, all nice and new...   will be worth it...  hand6.gif

So are they "giving" you a new case or do you have to pay for it? Is the entire watch being sent back or just the scratched piece? If they are "hooking you up" with a new watch and/or case, seems kinda odd that they would do that considering it was your boo-boo. Awesome for you if they do!!smile8.gif Or did they mention $$??toon1.gif :Blackwind wrote: So I heard from Debaufre and I am sending the watch back for a brand spankin new case!! Weee!!

The entire watch is being sent back for a "once over"...make sure everything is ok. An entire replacement case was "ordered." This will cost me I'm sure...or at least I expect it will. :)

you're better off sending it directly to them anyway in the long run. keep the warranty intact and it'll be back to original. good luckyourock.gif
