I'm meeting a fellow who is selling a seiko black monster. I know nothing about the seller, exept that he states the watch is good except for "two light scratches" on the crystal.

Question...when I go take a look at the watch is there anything in particular I should be looking for (aside from that it is running)?  Can I buff light scratches from the crystal of a monster?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Erik

How much is he asking for the watch? If the price is right, the go a head but the black monster is pretty common and can be had for under $150 in mint condition...with everything in hand...

Pretty tuff to buff out scratches but it can be done with some elbow grease and diamond paste (google it).  Make sure you pull the crown out and manually advance the time to make sure the day/date advance properly!  Also, check the case back for signs that it has been opened.  Even the oldest monsters are not yet due a service so it should not have been opened except for maybe regulation.  I personally wouldn't touch one that has been opened.  Other than that, a good looking over should tell you what you need to know

It all depends on how deep the scratches are ....80 is certainly a fair price
