Hi all. Such a great forum! Well my birthday is coming up and I get to spend a little bit on a good watch. Woohoo! :) It would be my first over $100.00 watch so I'm very excited. Anyways, I have a few features that I need which are pretty much basic compared what's available on watches these days. To name a few, analog, day and date display, 2 or more daily alarms, good light(lume), chrono, seconds hand, atomic and solar. As an everyday general purpose watch this zeroed me on the Citizen Skyhawk AT ( JY0000-53E ) and the Oceanus (OCW510DA-2AV). (Both below) I can't decide which of the two I should go for. The Oceanus has a sapphire crystal and the Citizen a synthetic crystal. The Citizen also has only 2 alarms which meet my criteria but more would be better... not a must have. And from what I've read so far, the Citizen's light just isn't that great, apparently the light source is only the lcd displays where as on the Oceanus it lights up the entire dial with 2 LEDs which are pretty bright. On the other-hand, the Oceanus dial just looks boring. Although the Citizen may be overkill for my needs in terms of features, it does look very nice. Both are about the same price.. what are your thoughts that would help me decide? Also if there is a similar watch other than these 2, please do let me know. thanks, s-one Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T model JY0000-53E $450.00 ![]() * Type Cal.U600/U60 * Accuracy ±15 seconds per month(without radio signal reception) * Operating time from full charge approximately 6 months(in power save mode:approximately 2.5 years) * Specifications Germany(DCF77), The United States(WWVB), Japan(JJY)standard time radio wave receivable * World Time(43 cities and 29 time zones) * 2 Alarms * 1/100 Second Chronograph Measures up to 24 Hours * 99 Minute Countdown Timer * Perpetual Calendar * Digital Display Light * Greenwich Mean Time Display * Rotating Slide Rule Bezel * Non-Reflective Crystal * Stainless Steel Case * Rubber Strap * Power Reserve Indicator * 200-Meter Water-Resistant Oceanus Atomic Solar model OCW510DA-2AV $450.00 ![]()

I think the Citizen is a bit too busy . Go with the Oceanus. |

Well i guess it depands if I had friends in 43 timezones or slept a lot and needed 4 alarms:P Ok, just kidding........a lot a technology in those watches, I would determine what i might use most. My purchase would be based on looks alone so I vote Citizen:) |

I voted for the Oceanus, the Citizen has way too much going on. |

You may also want to look at the Citizen NightHawk. No alarm but easier to read IMHO, and great lume for less money. Attachment: 2007-01-13 031.JPG (Downloaded 72 times) |

I voted Citizen because of the 'instrumental' look... ;) |

Ordinarily, I would vote Citizen for reliability. But, holy Moosis, there's a lot of STUFF on that dial! This time to nod goes to Oceanus. (if you really need all the functions you specified) |

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and thoughts. I greatly appreciated them. I know ultimately its up to me to pick one but being such a novice in these things it does help to know what to look for when making decision. Probably like many of you, I forsee this being a fun and expensive collection. Remember, I'm coming from under $100.00 watches. :P Again thanks all very much. s-one |
