Mid-day switch to the Wilson diver on my sweet new BaliHa'i H'ai-Q orange strap (thanks Chris!) I like the leather strap so much I'm keeping the H'ai-Q on it for now.

You guys have been tempting me with your SKX007's and SKX009's...just a classic seiko diver design...I was about to jump on an SKX007 when this very seemingly rare (IMO) SKX399 came up...I decided to jump.

I'm really liking the case design and the unique SKX399 chrome surrounded "placed indices" on the dial.  I think this may be my favorite of this case design....

Some Q&D's...I'll try to post up some better pics by the weekend.

And that great Seiko Lume...

Chris, I really like this Seiko of yours. Yes, you are right. This is a relatively uncommon one. Big Congrats, amigo!hand6.gif

Jeep99dad wrote: Congrats Chris! I like it a lot... What are the differences b/w this model and the 007/009? Aside from the different and surrounded indices? Is the size the same?

same mvt?

Thx

I happen to have my 009 so you made me want to switch:)

Jeff and Brice...thanks for the kind words and Congrats!!thankyou.gif

I'm liking the classic lines on this one quite a bit!!

Brice (and Daniel asked similar question yesterday) - The SKX399 has the same case design and size as the 007's and 009's.  This one also runs on Seiko's venerable 7s26 movement.  Also has the same "reverse ball" seconds hand.

My understanding on this one is that is was produced specifically for the Phillipine market with the only difference being the shape and type of indices on the matte Black/Charcoal colored dial "placed indices with chrome surrounds".  Oh...a minor thing I know, but it appears the 399 (and the SKX173) is the only one with a small lume marker to the right of the day/date window...go figure?

Interestingly enough, I had also been looking at the SKX173, which as I understand was produced specifically for the North American market, has straight "non-round" indices, but they are the painted on type like the SKX007 has.  The SKX173 has a "forward ball" seconds hand which is different from the 399, 007, and 009.

There are certainly quite a number of SKX models with this case design that Seiko produced for different world markets...all cool IMO.

Hey Chris, I did some research after your post of yesterday and found a bit more info about that 399 model.  First I found out that I want one subtlelaugh.gif, then, you are 100% right when you say it's a rare model.  You also seems to be right about the watch been built for the Phillipines market but no body seems to know why so few of them were produced...So, the watch you have IS a collectors item and now I need to find one :D  I also found out that it has a little brother, the SKX401K!
The picture was borrowed from the net.

Man, here starts my search for those two Seiko's!  Would you mind me asking if you bought the watch new or use? And if new, could you PM me the seller's address?  Thanks Chris!  I think it's going to be a good challenge to find them...But that's ok, I love challenges :D

Hey Daniel...heh...heh...subtlelaugh.gif.

Glad I could be a part of you embarking on a new search for a couple of great Seikos!!!  Yep, I'm aware of the SKX401K model as well and have kept a lookout for one for some time (I think they may be even more elusive than the 399).

I bought the watch used from a seller in the USA (really a lucky find for me) it was listed on another watch forum...handy when "seeking" out in the preowned market.  I did get lucky as my sample is absolutely "like new" and looks like I just unwrapped it from the plastic!!! Not a single mark on it!!

Good luck with your search...and please PM me if you ever find a seller of new ones...I have not seen any yet!!

-Chris

thankyou.gif I love those composite straps from Marat**... I have 4 or 5 of them I think... a Orange stitching in 24mm for the Cuda, a red straight 22mm for the Sea Shark, a red 22mmlug/24mm strap for the seiko 009 above, two blue one in 20mm for the Breitling and a 22mm I had on the 009 and the Zinex pilot too, a white 22/24mm for the Seiko 009 in the future too or the Hami Tachymiler...:)

I love you Ellesse!!

Switch that is sure to tick some people off.  Ken's favorite watch on a Texas orange strap. The SEC has beaten OSU too many times for me to cheer for Alabama.  Hook em Horns!!!

All this talk of Seikos made me very happy i'm wearing the great SKX171 MKII Mod, I finally took off my BaliHa'I Q that I had been wearing the past 2 weeks (I do miss my Q..)...

I do love this one because it reminds me a little to my 'grail', the MKII SF.. I'm using it on my newest Maratac Elite Strap with Black stitching,,,, it does look good...yourock.gif
