Opening with a switch from my stolen Hammilton Khaki Field Chrono to my pilfered Hammilton Khaki Field Chrono...(thank you Mr. MAXX)...this sucker is a real bruiser and I've put it on an SS "watchadoo" beacelet, which is one of the thickest (3/16 inch) most heavy duty bracelets I've ever seen.

I fear my Badgers may take a drubbing in Michigan today. Luckliy no sign of TD Tony!! I'm going with the SECTOR 850 Auto toady as I think I am going to keep it unless someone baits me with an offer I can't refuse. I might even remove the plastic from the deploymant clasp!!

Cheers,

Pax

Brotha Ken...there is no comparison to cuz Pax's Mido and the Oris....Im sure he will tell you the same....If you want to save money then buy the Mido...if you want tremendous value for around 700...get the Oris...  Of all my watches ( and some cost 3 times more than the TT1 ) my favorite watch is this Oris....Good day sir...I SAID GOOD DAY !!!!!!!!! :cool::cool::cool::cool:

Good Lord you are a condescending sh*t for brains!!

I would argue against your ascertation and implication the Mido is soehow inferior to your ORIS. Both start with an ETA...mine a 2336 and yours a 2824. Both movements are tweaked. Apparetnly Oris tweaks enough to give it a new name. Whoop de dooo!! Specifications are quite similar. Obviously you wish to think the Mido is inferior to the Oris. You may do so as you are a filthy Canadian Cur!!

BTW please post a picture of your 3 X 7 watch ASAP....I have yet to see it amongst your billions and billions of watches...

Do not monkey with sleeping cobra. He wakes up angry... I do not condur Canandian Cur!!

Oh look a chicken!!

I said, Oh look a chicken!!

Enlighten me please..............the similarities and the differences between the two?  I have heard of ORIS over the last few years, but MIDO is an old line name from my childhood................don't they both have the same movement?

Does the ORIS have an SS Bracelet that can be purchased (Mido does not)....one of my fears with "integrated lugs and strap is that when the strap fails (as they always do) will another be available without mortgaging my 1st born?

You can buy a ss bracelet......... but you are correct in assuming that it will cost you if you were to buy a replacement strap in rubber ........mabey I am partial to the Oris but I see tremendous bang for the buck......Oris has been around for a long time and specializes in well made mid price watches                                   KenC wrote: canadajo wrote: Wow...take it easy there Paxman...check your blood pressure and have a sense of humor....mabey it wasnt funny but your quick to drop the gloves eh ?????

CJ, you know I am quick to drop the gloves when you are patronizing and dismissive, especially when pooping on my Mido.

Let's examine the specs:

Mido:

Dimensions: Diameter approximately 40mm across bezel Thickness approximately 12.5mm Case: Stainless steel - brushed/polished finish Uni directional diver bezel with luminous dot at 12 Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating Mineral crystal display back Screw down crown Water resist 200m Dial: Matt black with applied silvered Arabic and baton indices Luminous (Superluminova) dots on outer ring and batons Silvered hands with Superluminova fill (luminous triangle at tip of seconds hand) Movement: Modified ETA 2836-2 Quickset day and date Adjusted in three positions Decorated winding rotor Hacking Strap: Soft resin dive strap with double folding safety clasp and diver's extension link

More on the movement:

Mido utilises ETA calibres (mainly 2824 and 2836) as do many Swiss manufacturers. However, Mido is one of the few mid range watches which use upgraded/adjusted versions, thus:

  • adjusted in three positions for higher precision than 'off the shelf' calibres

  • high quality Nivaflex NE mainsprings

  • Incabloc shock protection on balance

  • decorated winding rotor

Oris:

44.00mm (gents large) Band : Blue Rubber Strap Description : Oris Red-Rotor High-Mech, Mechanical automatic movement (base ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 38hrs power reserve), stainless steel casing, blue dial, display of hours, minutes and seconds from the centre, date at 6 o’clock, hour markings and polished hands with Superluminova inlay, screw down crown, flat sapphire crystal with inside anti-reflex coating, case back with mineral crystal, water resistant to 200m/666ft.

Details on the movement:

Cal. Oris 633, base ETA 2824-2, Ø 25.60 mm, 11 1/2''', bi-directional automatic winding, ball bearing, 25 jewels, Incabloc, 28¹800 A/h, 4 Hz, power-reserve 38 h, fine timing device and stop-second, centre hands for hours, minutes and seconds, date window instantaneous date, date corrector. Initial production 1982.

all info pilfererd from various web sources

So, I don't know which is the better. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the Mido as lessor than the Oris without qualifying it as personal preference.

Ken I do think you will like the Mido with your fear of integration...of the bracelet that is...

Pax
