This is the typical crap dealers pull with the release of a much-anticipated or limited production model. Hopefully, there's a warm room in hell for all of them that do this to buyers. Same thing happened with the Ford GT a couple years ago, the PT Cruiser before release and also with the new Pontiac Solstice. Frankly, if you wanna play, ya gotta pay, but if you have a paucity of cash and a little patience, you can eventually cut a good deal, in most cases. When I bought my 2002 SVT Lightning, many dealers sold them at retail plus $5000, especially in nutso California. In my case, I had to join the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) to get an "X Plan" discount PIN (Ford "partners" have access to X Plan, which is dealer invoice, plus 3%), then I was able to get my Lightning for $29,000, instead of $32,760...a super deal. So, where there's a will, there's a way...sometimes. I love a good deal! |
