I'm shipping this 47mm Pam Homoge Destro out tomorrow to get the movement modified, just got it a couple weeks ago and as you can see someone really messed up the movement but i got the watch "for a song" as they say.  I have not verified this yet but it may actually be in a real Panarai case???

So it is out the door tomorrow for some mods...the movement will be dissembled and stripped removing the golf ball dimple finish on the bridges.  The bridges will then be refinished with a simple brushed movement and the entire movement will be PVD'd, the winding gears will be polished and all screws will be fire blued......

the finished product will look something like this....

Comments???

I actually thought of that, he's going to verify it's a real Unitas when he takes it apart before doing anything to it......I guess you can tell when it's in pieces.

The guy I bought it from is a long time poster on another forum, he said he took it out of another watch that uses 6497's because the case was trashed and put it in this case....guess I'll find out,

I remembergoofy those stain mark on the movement was glue, when they glue on the replica plate on top with the Panerai name.

sounds and looks right to me JP...I missed the whole glue thing:D...here is a link to the replica and the plates JP speaks of that they glued over the clone movement that had Panerai printed all over ithand6.gif...the PVD movement is a awesome idea Nick...but again the pvd one in the pic is a Asian Unitas watch2.gif

Thanks guys, I'm sending him a couple other things anyway so I my have him clean it up anyway.

The PVD'd example was his test movement so he did it with a clone.

Maybe I'll send another for him to PVD, I really like the look.

OK gents, the verdict is in on the authenticity of this movement...

The watch has been disassembled and it has been confirmed that the movement is in fact a genuine Swiss made Unitas 6497.

I'm going to have the mods completed to it, now I just need to decide if I'm going to put it back in the same case or get another case.....

wow ... thats cool,  but I am wondering who is it that can " verify" its authenticity ???? I would be at a loss as to who can verify .... unless its an engineer or watchmaker that works on such movements .... they are getting very good at making replicas that seem to be the real thing .... just curious is all

The guy that does the mods and works on both clones and the real thing said there are a few subtle differences where he can say with certainty when the movement is in pieces wether it is a clone or the real thing.  He practices his mod ideas on the clones so he has a lot of experience disassembling them.
