Well...arriving just in time for the long Memorial Day Weekend, the Tissot Seastar 1000 (I know that many here at 3T know this timepiece very well, but here is the lowdown and some pics as well). Thanks to teddyhanna's (Thanks Teddy for a great transaction - See good guys section for recommendation as Teddy is a great seller) love of thick, beefy timepieces like the Dievas Aqualuna, Oris Carlos Coste, Orsa Monstrum etc...he let this one go and I was able to pick up this fantastic, lightly worn Tissot Seastar 1000 with Stainless bracelt and Rubber Strap. The Seastar isn't on the "beefy/substantial" scale of the watches mentioned above, but is a very nice timepiece in it's own way. Due to the unique bezel design it definitely wears smaller than it's 44mm dimeter bezel dimension (excluding crown) - the smaller dial size contributes to this as a substantial portion of the bezel diameter is contained outside the dial and the slope-away design of the outer bezel contributes as well. I have a relatively average-to-small wrist size at 7 inches so the Seastar still looks well proportioned on my wrist (IMO) and definitely has more substance than the normal 40mm class of watches that are out there today. Due to the bezel design, I can understand why those with large 8"+ wrists (that are used to wearing the many beefy watch choices out there) may not see it as "substantial" enough. Things I like about the Seastar 1000: Brushed/polished combinations all over the design - Unique brushed/polished bezel, crown is uniquely brushed/polished, top of case is polished (while sides of case are brushed vertically), SS bracelet is brushed/polished and central polished links uniquely "push-out" from the rest of the bracelet giving it a unique design. Like the highly domed sapphire crystal (with internal AR coating that really makes the dial pop!). "Porthole" sapphire display back (although I just realized I didn't take any photos of the back). The scuba diver on the rotor goes in and out of the watch back as it rotates due to it being off-center. I had heard that the Lume was so-so on this watch, but it performs very well and is very "lumey". I think that many say it's so-so due to the rather non-generous application of lume on the dial, but what is there gives off good brightness (IMO). Overall, I think I've got a keeper here. Here are some quick pics on the unique SS Bracelet: ![]() Swiss Watch, Spanish Wine ![]() Crown side shot showing domed sapphire crystal (sorry that the crown is dirty...I should have buffed before shooting these quick photos). ![]() And I know everyone here at 3T likes some wrist shots!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited on Fri May 22nd, 2009 10:59 pm by stew77 |

The Seastar is a recognisable design in its own right, not a copy of another. I think it looks great! |

It's the bezel with it's fat/solid serrations that I like most about this timepice. Jkang's right. It's recognizable on its own. Kudos stew77! |

Thanks JKang, bigrusty, tombs, and canadajo for the nice complements. I have to agree with you guys, the unique bezel of the Seastar is something that sets it apart from the crowd and is one of the main reasons I am glad to have this one. tombs - love the photos I've seen of the blue (I was chasing the purchase of a blue one on a pre-owned listing on another site, but couldn't get the seller to communicate so it didn't happen). |
