Hi every one! Since the first day I discovered that brand, I liked it. What was my surprised when I found out about 2.5 years ago (it's then that I started collecting watches), that Marathon was actually a Canadian company producing Swiss made watches for Canadian SAR, NASA, and US military. Being the only Canadian watch company with history that I know of, it became a must have brand for me. Finding a SAR or G-SAR without the "US Government" was almost an impossible mission so I called my contact at Marathon and got mine directly from the head office in Richmond, Ontario. The watch arrived yesterday, two days after I ordered. I was happy to see that this is one from the most recent contract which is December 2008. Having Tritium vials with limited life efficiency, better to get the latest production IMO. Marathon watches are very special for me. I consider these to be the ultimate military watches, I have a PDF file with all specific tests and specifications the watch has to meet before approval and it's quite impressive. Marathon is also the only approved watch company in the world to produce watches for US government personnel, at least, it was in 2008. Now the watch, well, the first thing that got my attention on this little beast is the bezel. Marathon simply has the nicest one I've seen to my taste. Operation is flawless, 120 crisp clicks, amazingly precise with no play, tons of grip, aligns perfectly with minute markers and the insert is very well design IMHO. At 41.1mm bezel and 39.5mm case, this is not a big watch but doesn't look small by any means. I love big watches but once in while, I enjoy wearing something smaller and for me 40mm+ is a very comfortable size and still has a substantial presence on the wrist with it's almost 14 mm tall. The movement is a trusty and well known ETA 2824-A2, except for the "A" that I couldn't figure out, and any info on this would be appreciated. The crown has good grip too and has a very solid stem that will allow no play. The watch has 2.8mm sapphire crystal and of course, tritium vials for night visibility. Now, that's a technology I wanted to have for long time on a watch and happy I now have one. The G-SAR came on a fantastic natural rubber strap that is about 4mm thick and 20mm whide. When this is a very comfy strap, it's just too narrow for my taste. specially that the band tappers down to 18mm almost from the lugs and aesthetically doesn't work for me. So what I did is using my brand new 22mm rubber strap from my J-SAR since this one is on the SS bracelet. I have to give credit to Oscar for this since he's the one who gave me the idea to try after seeing one of his posts, so thanks Oscar, it work just fine for me too. Now I just hope that vanilla smell will go away one day because even if I enjoyed it for a few hours, I'm starting to feel like I'm going to need a bag soon, if you know what I mean...:P So over all it's a very solid watch with a real tool look and everything to back it up and this is a keeper for sure...Now, of all the Marathon watches, the one I want next is the C-SAR so will start putting money aside and we never know, maybe next year... ( Please watch god, be good with me ![]() Ok , enough, I will let the pics do the talking for now, they have a lot to say :D. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed. Marathons are certainly a well built tank for a watch along with a tritium dial, what else could you ask for! Congrats! |

Thanks guys, I really appreciate this timepiece...I wish it had a black date wheel instead of white one but that's something that can easily be done if I want to do it one day and at the same time I find it easier to read like that so... Also, I'll see how long I will resist before a buy the SS bracelet but so far, I really like the natural rubber. Nick, have you done the auto mod to your J-SAR? I read a post where you were talking about doing it. |

Here, on Composite MARATAC. Very comfy and I like wider straps...I'm just wondering if I will keep the white stitch or make it all black, hummm... What you guys think?![]() ![]() |

Daniel...Congrats on the G-SAR!! (I'm not sure how I missed this post???) Like you said, Marathon is a great company with a great history...they very much DEFINE the classic tool watch in all of their excellent, beefy, classically executed designs. ![]() Thanks for the great pics, as always.... Love the tritium tubes on the G-SAR...that is a fantastic looking piece with lots of wrist presence. Looks great on the Composite Maratac!!!...I would keep the white stitching IMO since I think it plays nicely with the white bezel and dial markers, but I see where you are going in mentioning the all black look. Would also look smokin' hot on a black Zulu.... Congrats and enjoy!!! |

Congratulations on a VERY solid watch. I have the exact same model w/sterile dial and maple leaf bracelet. I took it to Iraq last year and beat the crap out of it. I wabi'd it up pretty good and managed to knock a trit tube loose, but it still runs good. |

Tony, Pax, Chris and Murphy, thanks for your comments. I like the matched stitching on the strap but, I don't know, it just doesn't seems right too me, something bugs me but I can't tell. I'm with you on this Pax, I just think it will look better on all black, so will go get the pen and BLACK it will be. Thanks for the feed back again! Murphy, just want to say... ![]() Last edited on Thu Oct 22nd, 2009 10:54 am by DM71 |

Daniel, I really the watch very, very much. Robust. Tough. Masculine. On the strap, just my opinion, best if it were all black without any white stitches. 2nd choice would be a hefty mesh. Wear it in good healthhand6.gif |
