This is it: My watch-maker finished it today!
A bit of history... Mid 50's, the Egyptian navy forces was training in Italy. The fell in love with the watch models from Panerai and wanted them own model. The first prototype proposed was rejected as they wanted something "undestructible"... They was some hairy divers.
Then came the Egiaziano model with an Angelus 240 inside who has 8 days power-reserve.
Only 50 pieces was made: So it's a hardcore collector who cost your own eyes.
Panerai made a new limited version(titanium) but still the price is giving me nightmares:D
So I went for the original size homage with 5.8mm sapphire glass and got instalated inside a 6498 eta with hammered surface.
The back is full steel so it don't show...
This is the real size: 60mm diameter and 295.5 grams with my rough straps and pig-buckle.
A REAL BEAST!
So you can understand before you say that it's madness: This watch was a diving tool and offcourse, supposed to be worn over a diving suite.
It never was made for cocktail-parties so the size is related to what it was concieved for.
Enjoy!

And here, compared to a 44mm Pam homage.

It's an homage as specified;). The reedition from Panerai is apparently sold out since long...The price is also way to high for me:D

Thank you all! I had it all night on the wrist and been getting use to it. I must say, the lume is really great and this huge dial makes it easy for time-reading: I can understand the point of those Egyptian divers. When you need time: It's there! No joke:D

I didn''t quite get it:

Was this a new remake of an older watch, or was it an old fixerupper?

Les bra igjen min forklaring;)

This a new cheap remake or homage: As I said ,the original was made in the 50's at only 50 pieces or less(year 1956 as I found out). Those original models who survived time(nearly unfoundables) sell certainly in private auctions at extremely high prices.
Panerai remade a modern serial of 300 pieces in titanium. Them version is at suggested retail 25/30 000$.
Like most of you, I don't got 30000$+taxes to put in a watch... So I went for the cheap custom homage.
If you want an homage like that, look on the net please. Some guys make it with swiss mvt some with chinese mvt. I personnaly just bought the case+dial from HK and will not come with further informations on the forum as it was a private transaction. Thanks.

Wow William, this is a serious and unique piece you have there!!!  Great project...You need real man wrist to wear that .  A friend of mine just bought a NOS 1979, original Russian diver which has 62mm case plus 15mm for the canteen crown.  Well it looked like a freezbie on my wrist but the 60mm looks good on yours!:D... I think I'll be nice with you sir subtlelaugh.gif Big congrats for a big homage!!! watch2.gif
