After some encouragement in the WRUW threads, I've decided to give this a full "new arrival" post. The Holystone is one of two offerings from RedSea Watches, a new watch company. It comes in either SS or PVD. I preordered a Holystone SS back in June of 2010 and then switched to PVD after a few other SS purchases while I was waiting. The watch stats are:
Unfortunately, there were some issues with the PVD on the bracelets, so they were sent back to be re-coated. I opted to receive the watch early, rather than wait for the bracelet to arrive. I have to say, I appreciate Josh & Troy not shipping the bracelets until they were up to standards. Overall, I've really like the watch. It's not as tall as some of the other divers, which makes it easier to wear to work, and the 9015 is a good movement. The 24 hour numbers on the dial are a little unnecessary, but it doesn't detract from the balance of the dial because the date is slotted in (the Six Pounder has a cleaner dial). Definitely a good first offering from a new company. Ok, enough talk, here are the photos: Travel Case: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The lume is from Lum-Tec and glows a "cool" blue. I've noticed that it takes a bit more to charge than on my Helson or Omega. ![]() |

Thanks for taking the time to post the New Arrival thread for this offering from Red Sea. I was curious to get an opinion as I am interested in what Red Sea has out at the moment. Can you comment on fit and finish? It is encouraging to hear the owners would rather sit on sub par bracelets than send them out. That says a lot imho. Nice look to the Holystone in PVD. I have a Lum-Tec so I am familiar with and a fan of their lume. All in all this looks to be a nice package at a resonable asking price. Again thanks for taking time to give us your thoughts and some Red Sea eye candy. |

Great looking watch! Love it on the red/black zulu, a perfect combo imho. Looks to be a very nice deal from a new company, and +1 on Marks comment about kudos to makers for holding back the bracelet until it is at the standard they want. |

Congrats on the new arrival RedSea Veritas!!! Thanks for the post-up...very nice to see some real-world pics and comments about this first offering from the new RedSea brand. I like the size and the design of this one (the pvd and the red accents looks great). Looks great on the various Zulus that you are showing it on. The Miyota 9015 is a great movement option, which I like very much after experiencing it on the Series II Moray. As others have have already said, it is a great thing to see owners stand behind their product and in this case push to make sure quality comes first in making sure the pvd bracelets are up to snuff. Thanks for posting up...I like this one!!! |

Like I mentioned in the original post, it's my first PVD, so I don't have anything to compare it to in terms of coating. That said, I think the rest of the fit and finish is certainly up to par with comparably priced brands. The bezel is 60 clicks and has a good feel. I really like the slight overhang of the bezel, which makes it easy to grip. You need to apply a little pressure to move through each click, but it's not stiff. Compared (unfairly) to my Omega PO, the RS bezel is "looser" and there's a little more give between minutes. Probably not something you'd see with a high end watch, but certainly common for my other dive watches in that price range. As you can see from the lume shot, they've done a good job matching the bezel lume to the dial lume. If you charge it, the lume is awesome, but it doesn't really glow that bright moving from light environments to darker ones. By contrast, my Helson & Omega are pretty bright just from wearing them in a room with the lights on. Also, I hadn't noticed it until my photo, but it looks like the lume on the minute hand may be a little uneven. I'll need to check, because that also could just be the way I took the picture. As for Josh & Troy, they've gone overboard in terms of getting this watch launched. They kept preorders informed, managed delays, and included extras for preorders. They even let me switch my order from SS to PVD without paying the difference since I had been an early preorder. I'd certainly recommend a RedSea watch to anyone looking for a sub-$1000 diver. |

Thanks everyone, it certainly has found a spot in the rotation. I got the PVD bracelet yesterday and will update the post once I have a chance to take a couple of shots. My initial impression is that the bracelet is good, but has room for improvement. It has solid, fitted end links and a push button flip-lock, which are great, but there are only two micro-sizing holes on the clasp and no half links so adjusting for all size wrists is tough. There's also no diver extension, something I know is an issue for real divers (but not a desk divers like me). Josh & Troy have acknowledged that some of these issues (micro-sizing & diver extension) will be addressed in future designs, so it should only get better. |
