I picked this Cherry off the bay on a whim and it may have payed offhand6.gif...Circa 1915 E.Blancpain/A.LeCoultre Ladies Wristwatch ...15 jewels mechanical...case opens like a pocket Watch...21mm case...14K Gold with a Ribbon Strap all in VGC and Working Perfectly!watch2.gifA brief history from Jeff Hess / HrWatches off the NAWCC forum below Pics:)![]() ![]() Post Here is the short version. I wrote an article about his for a watch magazine and it has been discussed here before.. (just do a search for blancpain) Blancpain was taken over by the bookeeper, Betty Fiechter long ago and she continued to see the huge need for ladies bagguette watches for the American Market. Blancpain was big into this and made watches under their own names and for others. They were the biggest makers of ladies watch movements. OFten signed one or more of the following names; blancpain, villeret, Rayville (an Americanization of the town they were locatd in Villeret (Villa-ray) A. LeCoulre and sometimes a combination of those names. They also made for Omega and reportedly (not proven) Cartier. They made so many watches for Omega that Omega bought the company and became the powerhouse the Omega/Blancain/Swatch group is today. These were once throwaway melt=em-down watches but now, the mere name of Blanpain makes the simplest of these watches collectable. Jeff Hess Jeffrey P. Hess Moderator |
