So I've been thinking about a yellow diver lately, and with the lack of DOXA 750T "normal" divingstar, I opted for the Orient Star 300m "helium gas diver," sold only on the Japanese domestic market.  Orient exports the black and orange dials under the "Orient" name which US dealers carry, but not the yellow dial.  Not sure why they dropped the Orient Star name either.  I ordered mine through Higuchi, and as usual, Katsu-san was first class and a pleasure to deal with.

Initial impressions - fantastic quality and finish, I wish I had a Seiko Marinemaster to compare it to (Christian (Onkel C) may post a review of the two at some point).  Running +3s per day so far, and I like the neat power reserve dial - no more worries on this non winding watch "winding down" with the meter telling me exactly how much time I have left.  I like the ratching bracelet as well, and the lume is among the best I've ever seen.  The black portions of the bezel appear to be brushed and powdercoated, with the brushed finish still visible in those regions - I've never had a diver with this type of finish on the bezel and it is simply outstanding.

A few quick and dirties, and I fiddled around with the long exposure setting on my camera to make a "sweeping" lume pic.  The photos are not edited in any way - the watch really is that bright in the dark!

Sorry if I did something wrong on the post.  I did not notice anything odd about it (such as scrolling to the right).  They were normal 800x600 images, and on my Firefox, showed up vertically so unless you have a screen resolution below 1280x1024, it should fit in the screen without scrolling.

Great watch!  Love that lume!!

I was really torn between that watch and the Fortis Marinemaster that I bought.  Me thinks I made the wrong decision... and once I get the Fortis fixed, I might sell it to fund the Orient. I'd love to see a wrist shot (and let us know your wrist size) Thanks!

Not there.

I am pretty sure that watch only comes in black and yellow and is only available on the Japanese market, but maybe I am missing something.

Yea ask Marc I have him looking at getting me the orange dial soon. ;)

If you look at the specs and the watches side by side the Orient Star and Pro diver are the same except for the dial work. :)

The US market is only privy to the "Orient" version; which is the same as the "Star" version, less the badging. They come off the same line!!!

The Orange will be available from me end of October. I most likely won't list them on the site. . . I'll be getting them for special orders only, so. . .

any takers???  toon1.gif

Yes the are the same watch.  For the yellow version, you can only get it as an Orient Star from Japan.  For the orange, only the US version an Orient.  The black, you have an option - personally I like the Orient Star logo better (even though the watches are identical).

Ever since they first came out the yellow dial Orient Star has been on my "Must Have" list though the price was somewhat daunting (sell some watches, NEVER!)
That is a beauty in all the dial colors though the yellow is something special. Maybe I can talk my wife into one for a Christmas present...

Congrats on your Orient!!!! hand6.gifhand6.gifhand6.gif

Cheers,

I may be a taker, depending on how hard I scratch my pocket watch itch at a couple of upcoming antiques shows.

take your time. . . we've got plenty of it. If that Orange Orient doesn't suit you, try an Orange Zeno (shameless plug!) see my post in the IW section

If you don't mind, I would be interested in the specs (esp. dia and thickness) of the OS 300m diver w/ yellow dial and the price and I can let you know if I'll take one.

Thanks

John

A couple wristshots to compare size.  My wrist is 7.5" and I used a couple watches the folks here are familiar with - DOXA 750T and Orsa Sea Angler.
