Finally, after weeks of waiting, my Hamilton has arrived. It is a black jazzmaster chrono auto, http://www.hamiltonwatch.com/webapp/en-us/collection/?c=AC&y=61&p=72 also ordered an extra brown croco strap to finish it. One, maybe dull, question as this is my first auto watch: in which direction should I wind this one? I understood there is a valjoux 7753 inside, which only winds one way. CLockwise, there is almost no resistance. Counter clockwise, i do feel resistance. Which one is the right direction? As far as I know it is to be clockwize always ?!? That is a fine timepiece !!! |

Welcome to 3T Peter! hand6.gif Congrats on a Awesome Hammy and to answer your question I have never heard of damaging a 7750 or any watch by winding it in the wrong direction (or half turns)but then why would you?...you should always handwind your watches clockwise! Now some movements can be wound in both directions and others counter clockwise and you can refer the the Orbita database to find out what direction is suited for your watch when using a winder as well as how many revolutions per day :) Now for the Valjoux Wobble (Valjiggles). The 7750 has a large rotor, and the movement winds unidirectionally. This means that there is no resistance to the rotor when it is trying to move in the non-winding direction, and it can free-wheel...creating the Wobble you feel while wearing it...very cool imhocool10.gifYou do however have to be careful when setting the date and there are mixed times as to when not to...but to be safe always set your watch to 6 o'clock when setting the date otherwise you can jam the mechanism and screw up a nice watch and be sure the chrono function is not running! thanks guys! Just saw I made a mistake. I feel the resistance while winding it clockwise, not counterwise. @oagaspar: don't want to do it the wrong direction, but still trying out to find the right one :D So, if I understand you right: I should turn clockwise, feeling the resistance. The resistance is an indication of the watch being winded? I kind of lik ethe wobble too, as I understand correctly this is the fierce turning of the automat? You can also hear it when you listen carefully whe is turning fast... |

Peter...there is a explanation as to the Wobble above in my previous posts and it is kinda cool to feel on your wrist as well as watch the rotor spin when looking at the movement with only a light tap of the case sidecool10.gif...and as I mentioned wathces that are windable will wind clockwise...Seikos,Orients and others are not windable and need to be shook in order to get them going and this tehnique can be used for any automatic watch although my personal preference is a windable watchhand6.gif If you do a search using the forums search engine you will find much discussion on this subject as well as the Orbita database watch2.gifbtw not all watches have winding resistance...in many COSC movements you can barely tell you are winding it!...freaked me out the 1st time I ran into ityourock.gif |

According to SWSG, "the VAL 775X winds in on the clockwise turn, but for ease of winding, one should turn the crown in both directions." Below is their phone & address should anyone ever need it....
