Well it seems there are a small number of us so how about some info and/or discussion? Here is your starting grid: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I watched the qualifying last night courtesy of SPEED and really enjoyed it. First off I love the fact the drivers are having to drive so much since traction control has been banished. It may slow them down a bit, but imho it is highly entertaining to see these cars acting like cars. Seems to formula has changed to make the racing more entertaining. I'm also happy to see some new faces in the driver's seats. Most notably Sebastien Bourdais who dominated in CHAMP car seems like it will take some time for him to find his way. I also felt bad for hometown boy Mark Webber who lost his brakes and found his way into the kitty litter to qualify a disappointing 14th after showing some quicks. Kimi also suffered a mechanical and did not make it back to the pits thereby ending his day. He'll start in P 15. As a question, which sites do F1 fans favor for their info? I'm not terribly satisfied with any I have visited as of late. The race will be broadcast on Speed tonight and I am looking forward to staying up and seeing some great racing. |

I am overseas and so cannot get the races. I use Formula1.com and use the live racing on that site to at least follow the results. It's also nice when I am in Germany and all the broadcasts are in German, I keep the web site up to see highlights and place standings live. |

I can't believe the difference not having TC and having a common ECU makes. Looks to be a very competitive and exciting season this year. I agree it is great to see some new seats. Piquet a little disappointing, not his dad, but I think that has a lot to do with Renaut. Did you hear Varsha talking about Alonso having an out in his contract depending on the performance of Renaut and that he may be looking to Ferrari for 09? Interesting. I was impressed with Massa and Kovalainen and of course Vettel, maybe Toro Rosso will be more competitive this year. It was unfortunate what happened to Webber and Kimi. Should be a really good race tonight. Let's see if Hamilton keep going with what hed started last year. We know he can drive now he just needs to keep it together and not do what he did in China. |

I'll be checking that race out as I am in a racing mood, thanks for the heads' up Pax! I was always a Champ Car fan, but when USAC went the way of the dinosaur and CART/Indy Racing League came along I lost interest. Open wheel will always be my favorite hand6.gif Cheers, Griff |

Wow!! I must be getting old because staying up was almost tough! Were it not for some great race action... Here are your results: ![]() ![]() You'll note out of 22 starters 8 cars finished. this was a race of attrition for certain as many of the teams are still working out the kinks. You'll also see quite a few cars gone out with accident or damage. There was some wild wheel to wheel contact racing going on. Very cool to see. If you finished the race, you were in the points... well except Rubens Barrichello who exited the pits under a red light. This after his lollipop man cut him loose while fueling which sent his crew sprawling. Lewis Hamilton lead pretty much from pole to flag with a couple lead changes around pitting. He ran fast and clean and made no mistakes. His greatest advantage was being out front and away from danger. Also notable was Sebastien Bourdais who drove a smart race and found himself in P4. He held off both Fernando Alonso and Heikki Kovalainen. Unfortunately his engine blue with one, yes ONE to go!! Ferarri surely must consider the Australian GP a disaster. Masa suffered damage in the early stages and had to retire. Kimi was running hard but for whatever reason the team held him out of the pits with little rubber and almost no fuel. Kimi managed to go off and nearly get caught in a gravel trap. He pitted and was again running hard and had closed the gap between himself and Timo Glock when he spun out. It all made no difference as his ride eventually stopped running altogether. Timo Glock had a nice run but went wide and got launched off the terrain. He came down hard on the track and was broken. Amazingly his car did not smash into a wall. This initiated one of the three safety car periods. All in all some very enjoyable viewing. They'll do it all again in a week in Malaysia. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Aside from all the pit misscues, etc. I thought it was a pretty interesting race. Hamilton sure looks to be the next big star. He sure has great composure. |
