I've just received a phone call from the GM at the restaurant where I am currently
working as a cook. I am no longer be working 12-17 hour days anymore including weekends as of immediately. Starting Monday it will be an 8 hour shift with pay
raise!

12 - 17 hours a day? Wow, that must have been a grueling experience..

I hope you get acustomed to the new work hours very soon, and find some great ways to spend your FREE TIME! (except collecting watches ofc);)

The first couple of days when I started out it was awful, I was lucky enough to learn from the best chefs in the beginning which helped me out a lot.  Couple of pieces of advice that stuck with  me throughout my 20 years in the restaurant industry is that you've never blame others for your own mistakes and never complain.:)
