I agree w/Tony! w/10 seconds left in the game and you are up by 3 in the biggest Collegiate game of your life you either call a time out to let your players know what it means and slow down the oppostion or you foul someone immediately and send them to the free throw line even if they make 2 you are still up by 1 with 4 seconds left and that miracle shot doesn't happen

If you think Kansas was a great team, you clearly know nothing whatsoever about basketball. They were not the better team, yet they won. This happens. Just enjoy the fact that your lesser team stole the game; don't try to create a world where they are better than Memphis because it just looks silly.

Just a silly question because I admittedly don't know all that much about basketball, but if Kansas is the inferior team, why did they win? Remember the old adage, "may the best team win."

Why does the lesser team *ever* win? That's what makes sports exciting. My Giants took the Super Bowl from the immortally great Patriots, and although I found this, as a sports fan, to be quite thrilling, I'd never go around saying that the 2007 Giants were a better team than the 2007 Patriots. It all came together for them on one day, though, and they won the game. The NCAA championship game doesn't even have the distinction of being that clean-cut., since Kansas didn't exactly punch Memphis in the mouth and win all facets of the game the way the Giants did it to the Pats -- they got behind big late and needed miracle after miracle just to get the game to ovetime. They needed about 5 lucky breaks to go their way, in the span of 120 seconds and -- miraculously -- they all did. They were in the position to require *needing* all of those breaks to win, however, because they simply are not as good as Memphis. Hey, just because someone wins the lottery, it doesn't mean that their best move is to keep playing. You walk away quietly, happy that you beat the odds.

Personal opinion, of course, but the Giants, by the end of the season, were a better team that the Pats...while their season record could not match the Pats, their play in the last several games and the playoffs could. As to luck...I can only quote a friend of mine who was a professional tennis player, "You make your own luck by continuously applying your talent and never giving up". At 7 points down and 2 minutes left, it would have been easy for KU to say...well, we fought a good fight...but they didn't, the just kept coming back at Memphis and created some "luck". It's not like KU came into the tournament with a lousy record and simply "got lucky". There is almost no difference in KU's 37-3 record and Memphis' 38-2 record. I seriously don't understand the "inferior/superior" team thing. Two great teams played a great game, and in the end, one of them decisively beat the other. As to punching Memphis in the mouth and putting the hammer down...they certainly did. They dominated the last 2 minutes of the game and they dominated overtime (12 to 5), winning the game by a decisive 7 points. As to the lottery, that is simply the luck of the draw...there is absolutely no talent to be applied to "playing" the lottery....bad analogy. Bottom line, once again, Memphis was out played and out coached. Was the tieing 3 pointer a miracle or is it something that was continually practiced to increase the odds of success? I dare say that had the Memphis players and coach put the same emphasis on the importance of free throws, we would not be having this discussion, but they did not...they continuously left an important part of the game out in the parking lot...and it finally caught up with them.
