Here is a poem I'd like to share with you all. I am sure many have read it or at least something by this author. ;)

A Nation’s Strength

What makes a nation’s pillars high
And its foundations strong?
What makes it mighty to defy
The foes that round it throng?

It is not gold. Its kingdoms grand
Go down in battle shock;
Its shafts are laid on sinking sand,
Not on abiding rock.

Is it the sword? Ask the red dust
Of empires passed away;
The blood has turned their stones to rust,
Their glory to decay.

And is it pride? Ah, that bright crown
Has seemed to nations sweet;
But God has struck its luster down
In ashes at his feet.

Not gold but only men can make
A people great and strong;
Men who for truth and honor’s sake
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly...
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.

by Ralph Waldo Emerson (1904)

Pretty uneventful for me. No mission today as it is our maintenance day. I worked till about 10, went and got a haircut around noon, and after that we went to chow. Spent a little of this afternoon reading and then called family and friends for a few hours. I think there's some festivities going on in a few places around here, but I'm not really interested in getting out. I'm relaxing in my PT uniform and spending time here and various other places on the web.

Thanks Hucky. I'm tempted to set off some of my pen flares to have my own fireworks show, but would probably get in trouble:(. Oh well, I guess I'll watch a movie later or something.

I will be going down to the riverfront with the family.  They are napping right now and I just finished the lawn.  I will also try to keep my dog somewhat sane from the fireworks going off.  I actually will look forward to the end of the weekend.  I'm becoming a crotchety old man and I'm not even 35 yet. I also went to a local parade to see my neice and nephew.  Pretty cool.  Saw some world war II vets in their uniforms.  Happy 4th!

I slept all day yesterday.  I got stung by a wasp the other day and my arm is swollen up like a balloon.coyote2.gif  So I am all doped up on benadryl to try to get the swelling down.  Benadryl knocks me out.

Wasp and Yellow jackets are extra mean this year it seems. I had a yellow jacket nail me on my jaw last weekend. Did the benadryl thing myself. If I am mobile it dose not phase me but if I sit down I get the nods going on. LOL :D

On that it is so weird not seeing any honey bees yet this year around the house. A bunch of bumble bees and the meanies I mentioned above though. :?
