I dont know how many of you are watching Barrett-Jackson this week.  They have what they call fantasy bidding. You guess what a car will bring and if correct, you can win a new ipod touch and other prizes. Last night my wife was messing around with her new mp3 player and I had said I was doing the fantasy bidding.  She never really said anything about the bidding.  Later on in the eve she comes in the room and says "What did you bid on?" I said I have a bid on the pontiac wagon that is coming up.  "What!"  she says, I said :"Yeah, I bid $37,000."  "You son of a ***!  Are you nuts?!"  Realizing she didnt hear a word I said earlier in the eve I started laughing.  Then she really got mad."What the he** is so funny?   I cant believe you did that!  Where are you getting the money to pay for it?"  I said "Sit down and be quiet and watch.  Pay attention to what the announcer says."  So, she sits down and watches. The car comes up, the announcer says "Bidding is now closed for the Haggarty Fantasy Bid."  She had no expression. So, I replayed what he had just said (I have tivo). Still nothing from her, she was just sitting there red-faced, stewing away.  So, the bidding starts on the car, I keep saying "come on $37000" really playing it up, well then its passes my bid and she says "You're lucky".  So, then I begin to explain to her what was going on.  You could tell she was embarresed. After all that she asks "when is the next one?" and I set up an account for her and we both played.  See what happens when you dont listen.

Usually I am the one that doesnt hear what she says.  I am  afflicted by that syndrome that only affects married  men.  The selective hearing syndrome. You know, that one where you have to try REALLY hard to pay attention to what your wife is saying?  I cant tell you how many times in our 14 years of marriage I have heard "Are you listening to me?" I say "Yes" And she says "Well then what did I say?" Then I am fumbleing around  trying to piece together some of the words she was saying and then she says  "Not even close."
