I started this as a review of the MercWorks Orian and it wound up being an opportunity to take some pics of some of my spare knives. The Orion's specs Dimensions: 7 1/2" x .210" Blade length: 3 3/4" • Handcrafted in the USA • S30V • RC 58 • Cyrogenically Treated • Micarta Handle • Patented It is marketed as a small utility knife that is ideal for hunters, fisherman, and for undercover operations. I see this knife as being a great back up blade. My greatest problem with the blade design is the upper clip will need to be sharpened from the tip to the mid point. They did not sharpen it to allow the upper edge to be used as a contact surface allowing you to choke up on the knife. Not a bad knife for the $375 dollar asking price. You can search around on and save a dollar or 2 but your wait time for the knife will go up exponentially. Orian (Top with Kydex sheath), Vorax (Middle), and Equatorian (Bottom)  A size comparison of the Yarborough compaired to the MercWorks knifes.  Mora of Sweden (Top), Rat Cutlery RC-3 (Middle), & The Orian  Got on a role taking pics. Becker Knife and Tool RC-9 (Top), Kabar (middle), and Gerber something or other (bottom)  Strider designed knives constructed by Buck  A.G. Russle knives Bird and Trout (top), and the Deer Hunter (bottom) Good utility knives with VG-10 Blades.

I've got the same Buck folder you have second up from the bottom. I carried it on my tour in Iraq as my daily knife. I also have a large Chris Reeve Sebenza that I carry as my daily. I opted to not take the Sebenza to Iraq because I'd heard all these horror stories about customs on the way back. I didn't want to lose it to some douche-bag pogue. Turns out customs wasn't the hassle I thought it would be, but still, better safe than sorry.

Nice steel ... love the MercWork blades. I've got a decent collect including Randall, RJ Martin, Edmund Davidson, and other custom... need a new digital camera so I can post images. Jim

The truth is some agents are quite varied in there response, and some of the soldiers and contractors are quite varied also. You get 2 that are not in the right attitude and you get a bad situation. Glad you like the buck, it is what I would have carried also. The Sebenza is a great knife and I am sure you get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Have a good one.

I have always been tempted to get a Randall, but I would just destroy it. The MercWorks tips are very strong and double sided blade, makes going through even heavy clothing a breeze. Have a good one.
