Gentlemen... or should I say gentleman (JD) and Ken...:D I don't disagree with you at all. And Hollyweird? Why would anyone listen to what overpaid nitwits have to say?face4.gif But having said I do believe the erosion of the family has little to do with which administration in in place. I believe it has more to do with the breakdown of good old American values in our citizenry. People do not take enough personal responsibility or accountability for their families and what happens to them much less their actions as they bumble through life consuming anything and everything placed in front of them. I understand you Ken, loud and clear, and believe me the moment I get wind of one of my children's teachers applying personal bias to anything I'll cry foul and let the teacher, their supervisor and my friend on the school board know about my extreme displeasure. My kids are small yet so perhaps this is coming. I am happy to know many of the educators in my community and find they do understand their personal bias has nothing to do with the education they give my children. I completely agree with you JD. I've questioned every administration since I've been old enough to give a damn! And your litmus test holds great validity imho. I am all about personal rights and freedom.:DIt is refreshing to have an adult conversation without resorting to flaming. something I think we are able to do at 3T from time to time with much success.:D Of course since Edgel had to bring Bush into it I am gonna take a cheap shot...

Actually, and this will sound strange to some, I believe that a large part of the breakdown of the moral fiber has to do with the elimination of the "Draft". As silly as it may sound to some, the Draft took in hundreds of thousands of young men each year and put them through boot camp, AIT (Advanced Individual Training) and 2 years of service to their country. This took young men at a difficult age and taught them self-discipline and a sense of accountability and responsibility which they adhered to throughout their lives and gave them guiding principles which they, in turn, instilled in their children and to others around them to the extent they could. It's called moral conscience. There is no longer a sense of responsibility, discipline or self-pride in much of our citizenry anymore...simply, and pitifully, there seem to be only a sense of entitlement! This sense of entitlement even spills over to those who have broken our laws and entered illegally...all the while demanding their rights...why do we never point out that the bulk of the illegals come to us from the 3rd richest nation in the world...why do they not protest their own government as citizens rather than protest our government for what we haven't given them.* Rant over...Press 1 to hear this in Spanish! *Let me make it perfectly clear, I have absolutely no problem with any immigrants who come to this country from anywhere else legally, abide by our laws, assimilate and become positive producers.

Its nice to know who really made the decision to take out the pirates. Ken, I agree with you on the draft to an extent. But, until our govt gets back to a "sane" place, I dont want to give any administration the oppurtunity to abuse how our troops are used. Especially if they were to use them against the citizens of the USA. I really fear for our country, the day we bailed out the banks and other companies we became a sociaist nation. Look up the definition of socialism if you dont believe me. I fear the majority in govt want to take us even deeper. The Constitution means nothing to them. I have read the Federalist Papers, I know what our Founding Fathers envisioned for this country. This aint it baby. I am tired of the govt spending us into oblivian. i am tired of the govt. devaluing or dollar. I am tired of govt devalueing what it is to be a citizen by allowing illegals into our country. Let the come in legally like my ancestors did. Legal immigration is one of the main things that made this country great. This "progressive" movement started way back with Woodrow Wilson, it hasnt happened over night and wont be reversed overnight, if ever. It was said that if you spoke against the previous administation you were "unpatriotic" Those speaking out against the admin. said it was their patriotic duty TO speak out. I and others want to see the policies and goals of this administration fail. I know myself and others with the same beliefs are called unpatriotic and even worse. So, is it not OUR patriotic duty ALSO to speak out against this admin? I guess not, thats why there are talks of bringing back the fairness doctrine or some form thereof and I am what our Homeland Sec. calls a "Right Wing Extremist". I dont care about left or right, I just care about whats right and whats wrong. I believe in God, our Country, our Military, and our Constitution. Thanks for listening. happy1.gif

It looks like we all agree that there are some issues arising that bother us all. It does not matter what "shade of grey you are". I have the responsibility of raising a four year old citizen(my daughter), and will make sure she is able to form her own opinions and judgements as she is growing. I will be the first one in the principles office if I hear of a teacher or mentor using "opinions" to influence the thought process. It should be my responsibility to instill the values that will allow her to form her "own" opinions. Just as my parents did. I am the son of a Marine. I did not follow in my fathers military footsteps, but his core values were passed on to me. "Values" I believe is the key word here. It is getting so ridiculous out there. Teachers cannot use red magic markers on graded papers anymore as they will psychologically injure the child. Are you kidding me!!!  I thought criticism helped the learning process, and helped the individual grow. Are we raising a generation of "compliant zombies".Also, when did it become wrong to state your own opinion. I see alot of groups preaching tolerance, tolerance tolerance, but they are anything but. If you disagree with them, they are about as intolerant as can be. Let us see what happens if the "fairness doctrine" be put back into place. Will it be "criminal" to talk about that old piece of paper known as the constitution???  Is it wrong to say "illegal" should mean illegal? Is it wrong to say "marriage should be a man and a woman"? Agree or disagree, we should be able to state opinions without fear of being ruined or being labeled as "radical".I would like to buy you lunch Ken!!!!!!

Guys I have to just say I am very impressed with the civility of this thread and topic. I've seen like post go South fast on other boards and not just watch boards. I had some forums myself over the years and would often stop such topics due to the sensitive nature and just the possible flaming and trolling that could start. But 3T is showing again just how wonderful a group we have. Thanks to all who have contributed so far here. Well done 3T. ;) hand6.gifhand6.gif

I see you are in Olathe, KS. I went to school and graduated from KU...the mother of a room mate and fraternity brother of mine (Chuck Hammond) owned the newspaper in Olathe back in the day. Olathe was a small (very small) town back then with a little Naval Air Station...must be huge in comparison now...International HQ of Garmin and all! Will be on my way to Ft Riley, KS in October for another week with the troops......
