Where did the time go?

Two years as a member of this fabulous forum, has given me
the joys of friendship,a sense of belonging and ultimately a truly
unique place to sit back on my days off and hang out.

When I started watch collecting, I had to learn the hard way
by making a lot of mistakes, this is because during the early 1980's
there were no magazines on watches and internet wasn't invented
until 1994-95.

Thirty years later, with dedicated collectors and hobbyists from
all over the globe.  Vintage watch collecting as an investment has
skyrocketed over the years, especially with companies like Patek-Philippe
are buying their watches back,at auction prices for their museum.

I remember during the late 1980's when prices began to increase for Rolex
Bubble backs. These were watches that sat for ages in dresser draws,
because people turned a blind eye. The craze began when Asian Collectors
in Tokyo and Hong Kong were willing pay ridiculous amount of money for them.
Nowadays, a Bubble back Rolex can set you back as much as a brand new Submariner,Daytona or a President.

My prediction are Omega Bumper Winds from 1943-1957.
These are the watches that are now going up in value.
I  was 22 years old and unemployed at the time back in 1992,
it was my first experience to get to know the Omega Caliber 354
Bumper Wind. The sticker price was $695 at the time, from a local vintage
watch store in Vancouver B.C. Nowadays, this same watch is
valued in the same price league as a Rolex Oyster Perpetual,
somewhere between $1,900 and above in Canadian Dollars.

Many factors come into play,my philosophy is to always
learn about each watch and  research every source that
is currently available. When in doubt ask for a third opinion.

Cheers,
Simon

Thank you Mark,Oscar and Tony for the kind comments.

Most definitely I will continue to be a family member of 3-T,
for future members who'll need advice or even history of
 certain watch brands.

Cheers,
Simon
