Here is my home computer setup I use for buying watches and looking in on the 3T forum. Of course, I use it for other stuff too. :D It consists of a Mac G5 1.8 Power PC driving twin 19" Dell LCD monitors. There are two external DVD/CD burners (one internal), some Harman Kardon Speakers & Sub, and a Canon scanner. Over on the right is my token PC.:P Its an older Gateway Pentium 4 driving a Gateway 18" LCD. There's an external HD next to the screen not hooked up.  Now, what's your's look like? :cool: |

However, if you look close you will see I am running Windows on the monitor to the right. Got both Mac OS and Windows running at the same time. :) |

No. It is a Panasonic 10" TV set.:D I have two iPods sitting down at the bottom left. A mini in ORANGE jacket and a new iPod Video in a clear jacket. AND, YES I DO Monitor auctions with the multiple screens. I lost one today and won one. Maybe you can find one of those during your Garbage Strike (if it is still going on). :D:D Someone in my neighborhood threw two working PC's away by the trash bins. I picked them up and am actually using one of them! They tossed monitors too! :shock: |

Hey, don't you guys think it a little peculiar that Apple has worked so hard to get Bill's OS to run efficiently on their machine and BG and the PC manufactures could care less about vice-versa? Could it be because Apple/Mac has, comparativley, so little software available, or that PC simply "ate Apple alive" in the competitive world of business applications? Actually, have nothing against Apple.........just never learned to use one because they were becoming extinct in the business world! I'm surprised it took you that long to weigh in Ken! I have a small home recording studio. Apple has all the industry leading software that pc's have, and some that they don't. Honestly, I just like not worrying about viruses and spyware. And, I don't have to buy any virus protection software. I know the typical pc argument is that there aren't enough Mac's to warrant someone building a virus. Truth be told, anyone with a little bit of gumption can get a copy of visual basic and write a virus for Windows. The Mac OS is very complex, there just aren't alot of hardcore coders out there who want to go throught the hassle of building a virus for the Mac. It's waaaay easier to infect a windows box. |

I used to be on the other side of the fence. I USED to be the one making all the comments like Mr. Ken C. I used PC's for quite a number of years before finally trying a Mac. I learned DOS, Windows 95, 98, 98SE, 2000, etc. I skipped ME, it was terrible. Then one day I sucked it up and bought a G-3 beige Mac with OS 8.5 (I think). It was amazing. No virus attacks. No system failures. No problems installing new hardware or software. No problems getting on the Internet. NO PROBLEMS PERIOD. And, it has been that way ever since. I'm on my 4th Mac system now, and still zero problems. Never virus, a worm, nothing. My computer just works every day. It has crashed maybe twice since I got it a year and a half ago. All my friends with PC's still call me for help with all of their problems. And, they do have problems. I just have to bite my tongue. Switching is something more people should try. |

Well of course you can find Dell versions of the OS (and others) on ebay right now and countless other places. I was talking Retail versions. You also can score discounts on similiar CD only versions of Mac OS if you want (i.e. no retail box, manual, etc.). But, remember that the Mac OS (Tiger) is NEW(er) and XP is getting kinda old now. What I was trying to point out is the NEW list price of the Mac OS is about a third of the NEW list price of a Comparable Windows software (these days). Wait 'til Longhorn comes out (if it ever does). Then we'll see $300 plus list pricing for sure. Show me a $75 price then. I don't think so. It will take a couple of years before that happens. And, I have never seen any PC that comes close to the current Mac G-5 inside. Outside, I guess if you like Alienware designs vs. the clean, sophisticated design of the Mac, I give up. Has ANY PC company created a product as cool as the Mac mini yet? The iMac? Nope. Some have tried and failed (i.e. Gateway, etc.). I don't buy Rolex anymore either. But, I have purchased other Swiss brands that I feel fit my analogy better than Rolex. I wouldn't compare Rolex to Apple, ever! It really sheds some light into some dark corners. There's a part of me that really thinks that pc's and the Microsoft operating system are designed to support a large base of Technical support businesses. In Minnesota, Best Buy has a "Geek Squad" department built right into the store. These pc's get so messed up by spyware and viruses that people who don't really know much have to take them in to get "paved" or "cleaned". I believe that they're made to fail to sustain a secondary business. There are probably MCSE's out there who are shuddering at the thought of pc's running the mac OS. |
