If we mix it up enough, think it will get him to take some wrist shots just to get us to shut the hell up. As for the Mac CAD & Mathematica is about all I can do on a computer, so that is another out of my area of knowledge. I wish him luck, I hate building a drive back up from zero, boring work. What am I saying between the pool and getting in 18 before it gets hot, it will take a week. |

Must......Control......Myself.......PC.......Hardware..... Failure.....Actually, bummer Ken. It happens. Mac or PC, every once in a while, stuff just breaks. I hope your repair goes smooth, and as always, here's hoping you turn away from the dark side of the force and buy yourself a Mac.;) |

Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....can I do it at the pool???:D |

Macs have a lifetime gaurantee?! I gotta get in touch with Steve Jobs, he owes me some money!. And yes, the 2 button mouse thing used to be a pain in the ass, but now I can buy any mouse I want. USB is a wonderful thing. Ken makes a good point. Back UP Your Hard Drive Weekly!!! There are 2 kinds of people, those that have lost data in a drive crash, and those that will lose data in a drive crash. |

I am a Mac user who has never broken the seal on his 1-button rodent. I have always used a Macally scroll mouse or a Kensington. Today, Mac's are shipping with a what LOOKS like a one button, but is really a three-button mouse with unique scrolling capability. e.avery wrote: I know, but you prob. do not want to know on which side of the line I stand. My calc. go to person has a mac but he only does the math and statistical work no CAD. If you can use most business applications then I may look into it for a test station to see how it would work out. My Sony work stations are having mother board and gremlins. My IT person said we back up on 4 hrs. intervals. The lic. we use are for specific programs and if we have to change versions the cost would be to great. We are considering it but my staff just about had a cow. These people will not even let the network operate on the internet. Last edited on Thu Jun 15th, 2006 04:16 pm by e.avery |

All of you are nuts........a roller ball mouse is the only way to go. :) Anything else is a royal pain in the butt. Just my opinion, of course.........:D Last edited on Thu Jun 15th, 2006 05:51 pm by tny795 |

Nuts are for squirrels! Yes, I have tried roller balls. And, I worked with a lady who would use nothing else but the big Kensington four-button roller ball. They do have their advantages. Depends a bit on what you do. The rest it personal preference. :) tny795 wrote: All of you are nuts........a roller ball mouse is the only way to go. :) |

An optical mouse is pretty much a standard thing these days. It uses an infrared type light instead of a mechanical ball. The advantages are increased tracking precission and no cleaning (of the ball) required. Prices have fallen on these mice to as low as $9.95. For more money you can get a wireless optical mouse. I personally haven't found one I like, but many people love them. I use one on my PC, but I use a wired mouse on my MAC. |

Thanks for this info. Wireless are nice, but have only had this one roller type. Will check out the optical ones. It's hard to believe anything can be simpler and easier on the user than the ball type. What I don't get is why businesses use the other type where one has to move it all over the bloody desk in order to get the cursor where it's needed.......horrible! mcwright wrote: An optical mouse is pretty much a standard thing these days. OK, now I understand. You have what is called a trackball. Or, sometimes called a rollerball. If you like that, then stick with it. I don't believe that there are any optical trackballs. There may be some, but that category of mice has dropped off the radar screen for me. :D |

I am using a wireless optical mouse for about 2 years now and so far no issue!!! It also comes with a charging cradle/base! So far again, I did not change the batteries! Most of all, I got it from my favourite shopping store and the price is CHEAP!!!:):):) From Hong Kong!!! I rate it 10 out of 10!!!:cool::cool: And if you have a mouse pad with a gel wrist rest, that will fit PERFECT!!!:):):) |

I tried one of those roller ball thingies and it felt like I was at an arcade playing centerpede............................................(LOL). I actually thought they were for people who had problems gripping things anyway, I have one of the two-button optical mouses and the job carries the ancient plug-in type mouses but that is government for you when its on contract get the cheapest thing rolling out the plant.:X |

Logictech also makes a newer version of what you have. I used for awhile. It is very ergonomic and fits your hand better while still using the same ball, etc. |

Seriously I am so used to the conventional way of the mouse(not type), I find the tracking ball hard to use, especially if you edit pictures. Otherwise, the tracking ball mouse is a good choice. tny795 wrote: This is exactly what I've had for years.........from Best Buy. They do call it a trackball......I had only heard of rollerball. |
