Do ANY of you guys know how to dance?  And, I don't mean the idiocy of supposed partners being on opposite sides of the room! :X

No rock!

The slow, senuous, swaying.........box step, waltz, two-step for starters.

Then, the tango (I'd kill for a man who could dance it, and it all really does depend on the man for this one.), the cha cha, too is great.  Latin music has to be the sexiest around.  ah, well.

I know, of course, you all think me demented but, right now, I'm listening to some great what-could-be dance music and am all but in tears because none of you can dance with me.........

"My Way" by Sinatra, if you know who he is, fgs.......you're all so bloody young!   "I Love You for Sentimental Reasons" by Ronstadt,   "Sway",   "Besame Mucho"  "Yesterday Once More".......man, this is the pits.

Some Enchanted Evening, you will meet a stranger, across a crowded room...........    are you he???  :D

My possible hero......I would like to slow down the couple below to a more romantic rhythm.  Must admit that jive isn't my cup of tea.

Thought possibly Ken (Vietnam) or maybe Mr. Pacifichrono might be old enough to remember when dancing was a wonderful thing, but you, sir . . .   a  most pleasant surprise.  happy1.gif

Hey, you edited that Sinatra line in whilst I was busily typing away......rofl

gee whiz, sir........I simply meant that since you'd been in that dreadful place, trying to stay alive, that means you would be old enough to know how people once danced.

shooting people does have its ups, I must admit..........:)

You are NOT abandoned; am just filling up my dance card with a couple of folk dances.  However, they aren't answering, are they?  (more deep sighing)

You noticed the rise in temp, too, huh?  Almost wish I'd never brought the topic up because I REALLY want to dance....;)

Ah, but, Carol, I am also of that era and I prefer to dream of romance. Many an evening I have also listened to many of the great songs of my younger days and waxed nostagicaly for those days of younger innocence and romance. I feel your pain, babe. I will dance a virtual samba with you in my arms tonight, mon ami.

Never cared for square dancing, but when I posted that, I would have even, maybe, kinda, sorta, p'rhaps done that.  I was so in the mood, but sq. isn't exactly romantic.

I preferred folk dancing at university.

Two score and four = y o u n g (-ish, if you insist)  :D

I'm sorry you missed out.  Am kind of surprised you didn't dance with your mom.

Oh, "Spanish Eyes"--does that ever bring back fabulous memories.....great song, but then they all were back then.  cool10.gif

The tarentella's exhausting, imho, but fun.  Most folk music/dancing is terrif.  hand6.gif

Some Enchanted by I don't remember

For the kind of music you like, you should listen to Jay and the Americans version of Some Enchanted Evening and a song called Cara Mia. Jay Black (real name David Blatt) was one of the best pop singers of his generation. The guy had a simply awesome voice. I saw the group live and he was simply incredible when he sang Cara Mia. It's a classic. You'd like both songs.

Everyone's getting off track here.  I'll take any kind of music (well, not twist and square) just as long as it's dance-able.  It's the swaying, close together, to the rhythm of the music that I care about.

The only exceptions being the tango and cha cha.

However, I'll give you and James' recommendations a listen..........but IT IS THE DANCING......ahhhh, the dancing.  smile25.gif

Well, I'm sticking with my recommendation. :D You wanna dance? Described below are the two songs by Jay and the Americans I mentioned. This was lifted from a discography of the groups 38 hits. :D These aren't twist songs. :D

12. Cara Mia (2:32) - For the first half-minute, the tempo is slow. After that, the drums enter and the tempo becomes slightly faster than moderate. Instruments include bells, audible especially during the first half-minute, and orchestral strings. Jay sounds almost like an opera singer as his character wonders why he and Cara must say goodbye every time they cease physical togetherness. He promises that he'll love her for eternity.
13. Some Enchanted Evening (2:16) - The tempo is moderate. Like the previous song, this one starts slow and features orchestral string instruments and bells. One of these evenings, when the narrator's pal is at a dance hall, he'll spot a girl and fall in love with her. The narrator advises his pal never to let that girl go once he's found her.

Mike, these are the exact two Jay and The Americans songs on my custom "Best" compilation CD!

The Rossano Brazzi version of the latter from the 1958 "South Pacific" is incredible, too.

Yes, Roy was in a league of his own. I saw him live in Detroit years ago. He just stood there, dark glasses on, and sang. He had an amazing range.

Jay Black had a slightly sweeter sound (to me). I had forgotten how many hits the group made. 38 singles is a ton for a group back then. I didn't know he wasn't the original lead singer until I started to look this stuff up.

TNY doesn't know what she's missing! :D Their version of the Some Enchanted Evening is awesome.
