My first post here![]() After seeing pictures of the absolutely fantastic Barracudahearteyes.gif - I just had to sign up for the Sea Devil. ...So one "black in black" #82 will be mineyahoo.gif My question is really for Ralf, but I thought more might be interested in the answer, so I chose to put it here, instead of just mailing. I know there are several kinds of PVD treatments. What kind of PVD will be used for the Sea Devil? - what color and quality/durablility can we expect? Kind regards to all Claus Last edited on Sun Nov 2nd, 2008 12:50 pm by Remember2 |

I'll say this... Ralf puts out a quality product. I own a Barracuda and it gets tons of wrist time. You will truly feel that you under-paid for what you receive, in terms of watch quality and all that comes with it!![]() |

Don’t get me wrong - I have absolutely no doubt in the quality of the upcoming Sea Devil ![]() I’m just curious to know what treatment will be used in the PVD process. As far as I know, there are several kinds, both regarding color, thickness, and hardness. |

Great R2... so you are familiar with Ralf's product quality, I wasn't sure. You bring up an interesting issue regarding the various PDV processes, both involving varying color and quality, so let's throw it out to the "3T-opedia" group: Q: What are the various types, color, and quality of PVD coatings for watches, and what should we be looking for and staying away from? watch2.gifwatch2.gifwatch2.gifwatch2.gifwatch2.gifwatch2.gifwatch2.gif |

My manufacturer called it IP. I have orderd a Barracuda in PVD to see what quality it is and I am very satisfied. I wear it very often but it still looks like new. It is very dark but cannot say how thick it is. I will visit the manufacturer this month, to talk about new projects and to see how they work. I hope I can make some pics and get some news about the Sea Devil, I have confirmed the tecnical dial drawing so the samples should be ready soon. Regards Ralf |

IP stands for Ionic Plating, a method of applying corrosion-resistant metal coatings. The article is placed in argon gas, together with some coating metal, which vaporizes on heating and becomes ionized (acquires charged atoms) as it diffuses through the gas to form the coating. It has important applications in the aerospace industryand also used in the watch industry. Other forms are PVD, or Physical Vapor Deposition, a general term used to describe any of a variety of methods to deposit thin film by the condensation of a vaporized form of the material onto various surfaces. The coating method involves purely physical processes such as high temperature vacuum evaporation or plasma sputter bombardment rather than a involving a chemical reaction at the surface to be coated as in CVD, Chemical Vapor DEposition. Hope this helps. Last edited on Wed Jan 7th, 2009 10:56 pm by |
