Today I saw the first dial samples. As always nothing works immediately like it should.
So the lume dial came with date window.crap.gif
I got no silver sun brush:( and the dials are in a vintage look.:?
The vintage look is something we talked about but it did not confirm, now when I see it I begin to like it and I think it is good that they did it because everybody knows how a black dial look but not how the make it in vintage style.
But look at it and judge for your self. I think the sea foam is really nice and the numbers on the silver are very good to see. Interested what you think about

They look great Ralf, really like that vintage look....the dark green dial, if you decide to do it will look very cool with that finish...which one of the pics is the lume dial.

BTW....now that the Sea Devils are incoming we have to start bugging you about when the Moray's will ship...you get no rest snoopy1.gif

Dumb question....why do the dials have a textured look? Is that the way they are designed?

I think they look fantastic. hearteyes.gif It will match the vintage theme and will only add to what is shaping up to be my most anticipated watch ever. I just can't decide which color to go with before I order. mistake.gif

Any chance on vintage lume on the black dial?

The black lume dial doesn't look that dark, which may be the one for me. I was worried that it would be too stealthy, but it looks very cool. Maybe you could put a luminous date wheel on it, that would really be awesome.

Great job Ralf!

The second one is the lume dial
They have a textured look because it should look like an old dial.
A vintage looking lume would be cool but you know it it less bright.
The black lume dial is really cool, depends on the angle you hold it if you can read it or not, but a black lume dial ring makes no sense because you could not read and is to expensive.
the black lume is stronger than I expected but it is still only black lume reading the time in the night is not very long possible, but you will see something glow

Sorry for being a pain but will you be able to assemble a Moray to see what it looks like....ie: case, dial, hands "no" movement?

I think I like the vintage texture, and I trust your judgement Ralf. You are the man on the ground and working at the front lines. And you have good taste.

I don't mind the vintage look at all since I will probably wear mine 'Panerai style' with a nice fat custom made strap.

I am unsure about the AMOUNT of texture. The texture definetly gives the dial some depth and makes it look 3 dimentional, but is appears the grains in the texture are so big that they are slightly disrupting the fine printing of the word 'Automatic' and the '500m' marking.

If you keep the dial finish, you may want to consider slightly increasing the font size so that the printing is clearer.

I am in for a PVD on Green, but I have to say the seafoam turned out better than I thought it would. A real winner.

Do all the dials have greenish tint to the Lume? I see the teal appears white in the top photo and greenish in the bottom, but I believe all dials are C3 and will have slight green tint in the daytime, Ralf is this correct?

These samples are Japanese lume with greenish/yellowish tint, here in the hotel more yellowish in the factory more greenish, probably depends on the light. I have ordered some other samples from a different dial factory to compare which is  better

Holy Mother of Magnificent Watch Design !  That's a compliment.  Seriously, the texture surface looks fantastic !  The blue dial and silver dials look incredible, beautiful !  Ralf, you are creating a look and a watch that in my opinion is comparable to watches that are many, many times the cost.

Hello!
first i present myself, i am Sergio from Spain and i have already preorder a green dialed moray :)...
I don“t know if i like that vintage texture, sea foam one looks nice , but i am not sure about the black one, as "pallet spoon" says, probably it looks too texturized....but it is hard to make an opinion just from a couple of pics....
I would not touch the font, mark and number sizes, i  think the dials are absolutelly well proportioned hearteyes.gif

i agree w/ serser.. the proportions and font sizes are just right.. no need to clutter the dial with excessively large text.. the clean and simple look makes it.

now if i can justify a silver version. it looks fantastic!!!

cheers,

also, if you get back from your computer about 10 feet, that is how the dial will look in reality, and at that distance the texture is pretty fine and not as bumpy as the macro 10X amplified photo looks. I alway love when the watch finally gets to me in the mail because it looks different, somehow smaller even at 45mm because I have been looking at photos of a 4 inch dial for the last few months.

Will the black dial be available with silver hands and red second, like the Sea Devil?

And I agree with the above statement, this is turning out to be a very exciting watch, looking like it should be much more expensive. hearteyes.gif

I think the dial texure looks great.  The lume color appears to be in that yellow/green area that a certain Italian maker uses on some of their historic submersibles.  I think it will look great on the black dials.

Hard to tell, but I wonder if it's too yellow for the seafoam and silver dials.  Seems like these would look best with white or pale green lume.  Just an opinion.

I've been on the fence with this one, but the more I see, the more I think I should hop on board the Moray train ThumbsUp02.gif

I am sure these are VERY preliminary... But as a Dial 1 fan and soon-to-be-owner, I noticed the dagger markers are not sharp and pointed at the tips. And the elongated 3, 6, 9 & 12 hour markers have one corner beveled slightly and the opposite is more 90 degrees... Not being critical, just an observation. I think they are coming along quite nicely!

Some short answers:
The silver is anodized an really great looking.
The dial are in real not to textured imo they look like some of my older dive watch dials and that was my aim.
I will think about a colored second hand option and will ask carefully if we can do, the factory is not lucky about my custom extra wishes but maybe it will come.
Dial #1 is fine in real, but you are right on the pic it looks a bit incorrect maybe tis is caused by the angle I took the picture, the lume   cannot be printed like a needle pin but you cannot see this on the real dial, I am very satisfied and I guess you will be too.

I was thinking the same thing about the color. Throw an interlocking NC on there and I could sell a good amount on Franklin Street.

Cheers,

Hey Ralf,

Could you take a picture of each dial in the case with bezel on and post some pictures? I really want to see the silver dial with the black bezel.:)

The black bezel does not fit the case and the Moray bezel is not ready yet, but because the black bezel  would look good, I am nerving the manufacturer about a black bezel option, I fear they are really grateful when I am sitting in my plane again.

As soon as I have a bezel I will put them in the case, without it is not nice
her two other pics to see the lume dial in a different light and angle and the #1 dial in daylight lume color

The black bezel you took the picture with the Moray case looked awesome -- and on that silver dial a black bezel would look insanely good!

I think it looks great as is, I am not sure mixing Stealth and Vintage works, it is kind of one or the other, I think.

A couple of curiosities.  Had you considered putting "500m" on the #1 dial?  Thought it might be a nice balance, but still mimimal.

Also, will Moray's with orange minute hand also have a orange tipped second hand like the Sea Devil?

Yes I have considered, but I think it looks better like it is, for the orange tip, I am thinking about a orange tip on all silver second hands, I know you guys love these orange tip.

Ralf,

I pre-ordered Moray dial no. 4 seafoam, and intend to order the special moray green dial.  Orange is not good on seafoom or green.

I hope that you are only going to use orange tip on the black dials no. 1 - 2.

Thanks,

Jim

I like a orange minute on the Moray green dial, It's what I reserved, #2 in fact, It's what makes them unique, you get pretty much what "you" want to have. I think all of my Benarus watches will have Orange minute hands, and the added touch of a orange tipped second is very nice as well. We will see what Megalodon has to offer for options, and we will get that too.

Looking great so far.  I agree with Steve, the Stealth should keep the smooth dial vs the vintage.  Here is a poor quality mockup of the stealth with case and incorrect bezel from your other post.  I like the fact that the numbers/indices almost look raised, as if they were applied as this increases the contrast with the dial.  Great looking crown BTW (from the other post).  I'll be looking forward to # 50 of 50, PVD stealth.

Ralf, I must start off by saying that you do some incredible work! I could not be happier with my previous purchases, and look forward to being a loyal customer. That being said, I love the Moray just the way it is. The lume looks a whole lot better in the direct sun and your judgement is king. The Blue is what I have ordered and it looks great...... matter of fact....I am drooling over more than one now. I've pre ordered dial #4 now.  I didn't think I was up for sea foam till I saw these latest shots.  What I really liked was how nice the lume numbers and markers look with the black outline.  Really sets it off nice against that dial color just right;)

As far as the lume color I haven't been sure what I liked best.  I like the cleaner white most of the time.  On the other hand I like the vintage appeal of this watch, and the c3 is brighter.

For dial 4 I'm also torn because I think bluer glow of the white lume would be awsome on this color dial.  However, would the whiter lume and black outline that I like actually pop to much and be destracting from the overall look?

Sorry if my thoughts are rambling, I havn't really handled enough watches with different lume to know if my concerns are founded.

I agree with you that the seam foam looks great.  I'm really looking forward to my #8.  I wish that more companies would be daring in their choice of colors.  How many times have you seen black, blue, white, yellow, and orange watches?  I want to see red, green, purple or even a different shade of blue as we have here with the sea foam.  Hats off to Ralf for bucking the trend!ThumbsUp02.gif

I am in the same predicament... I pre-ordered vintage blue seafoam dial no. 4 based on the graphic image that showed the lume color white.  I think we have both posted a number of messages regarding greenish / yellowish tint of C3 which seems to clash with vintage blue seafoam.

BGW9 would probably be much sharper, and cleaner, and "pop"...

Now that Ralf has decided to offer the British Racing Green special "moray" no. 6.. I wonder how C3 will look?  At night, the C3 greenish glow on the green dial will probably look better than blue lume of BGW9... but during the day C3 might clash?

I also think that we are both at somewhat of a disadvantage because not seeing the dial first hand.  Bright white lume might be distracting, and not blend, and a slight, very slight tint is probably preferred.  I just hope that the C3 tint is not garish and does not clash with the vintage blue seafoam.

The problem that I see with the Seiko Black Monster is that the dial includes flat black, white seconds markers, and big green lume markers.  Eliminate the white seconds markers, and probably would be better.  Oh well, talk about rambling.

I am hoping for the C3 on the green dial, I don't think a blue lume would look good at all at night on the green either. I also think it's a milestone just getting the option of a green dial, glad I was second in-line and piped up. Was there a post on the hand color options for the Moray? I'm definately looking forward to this in June. I also thought I saw a four gang watch case for 4 Benarus Sea Devils, That would be cool too. Have the Cuda', Devil, Moray and Megalodon in one big zip case, Might not be a bad option to purchase until old Ralf comes up with #5 in the series, Oh well, looking forward for that one too...............Dan

Dude, I'm so jealous of you.  I didn't learn about Benarus until all of the Barracudas were sold.  Now I'm lusting after one but there is none to be had!mistake.gif

I have #32 Cuda, #12 lume dial Devil, and just now pre paying Ralf for #2 Green dial Moray. Hope the Megalodon goes thru as well, There will be a Cuda for sale eventually, grab it if you can. Good luck and buy the rest of them anyway and have the rest while you wait for one to surface........DanThumbsUp02.gif

I can't wait for June, that's for sure!!!!  Two Morays on the way, #1 and #4 dials brushed with orange hands.

On top of that summer vacation, and best of all my baby girls first birthday!  Maybe I'll have to get another Moray for her:)

That's the plan!  I have a Sea Devil on the way (?#).  I'm on the list for a #8 Moray and a #11 Megalodon.  How on earth did you get a #2?  I'm still on the fence about the green Moray, though.  I was hoping that it would be a bright green like the 3T logo.  The hunter green looks like it won't "pop".  I'm afraid that under most lighting situtations, it would look like black.  If it's a dark green, I prefer something metallic and shimmering like the green Seiko Alpinist.  I hate the hands on the alpinist, though.  Do we know whether the green dial of the Moray will be textured like the sea foam sample or metallic?

If it's metallic, I'll probably go for one.

I wish that more companies would be daring in their choice of colors.  How many times have you seen black, blue, white, yellow, and orange watches?  I want to see red, green, purple or even a different shade of blue as we have here with the sea foam.  Hats off to Ralf for bucking the trend!ThumbsUp02.gifOn the one hand I agree completely.  On the other I'm glad I found out about Ralf and the Benarus line.  Now we can have stand out pieces that don't look like everyone elses.

I just happened to be online here when Ralf said it was a go for the green dial, I PM'd him immediately and asked for the lowest number, since I was first I guess, I got #2 reserved, He get's #1, as he should I assume, so I guess I got lucky for a change. I am waiting on his reply as I write to finalize all the options to pay him. I need a little more info on Mega to finalize that one too. I just havn't seen a final on dials or bracelets or anything like that yet, Just concepts................Dan

She definitely deserves a Moray!  If it's too big for her, she could always give it to Daddy!ThumbsUp02.gif

This shows the dials in the sun, and I think the colour of the lume on the seafoam blue works, for me! :)

Oops, wrong discussion thread, sorry!

I think with the off white/greenish looking numbers and textured dial the watch is looking vintage like Ralf wanted.....as stated on the forum before.....
