Hey, Guys. Would you say the lume is on a par with the Seiko Orange Monster? The reason I ask is that I have a Christopher Ward C8 Pilot with Superluminova on the hands and markers and it never seems to glow as well as the monster. For instance, I can wear the orange monster at work and it gets charged under normal office lighting conditions. I go down the hallway to the water cooler where it is a little darker and the watch is glowing--nicely I might add. This doesn't happen as prominently with the C8. I wonder if this is be/c the hands and markers on the C8 are not as thick as the OM and therefore does'nt appear as brightly? I was wondering what peoples' opinions are on the lume on the Sea Devil as compared to the orange/black monster...or any Seiko with Lumibrite. Thanks in advance, --Paul |

I have a seiko monster black dial...and it glows better than any other watch I own that has superluminova, tritnite, etc... I have a 26 year old seiko 150m dive watch that still glows better than most of my new watches. I understand that Seiko uses there own proprietary formula for their luminesence. |

So far I've determined the lume on the hands is great, not as great on the numbers and hash marks. The all-time champion in my collection is my DOXA 5000T. It is similar in that it glows in shadows in my office, and still shines visibly throughout the night into the morning. The Benarus is no slouch though! The hands just glow and glow and glow... |

I would say that the SD has great lume. It is not as bright as my orange monster, but not much is. I have never found the lume to be lacking and it seems to burn throughout most of the night, especially if you give it a quick charge before bedtime. I am very happy in the lume department. |

Paulie, to answer your question, the lume on the Seiko BM or OM is really bright. In fact, based on what I have read in the past from another forum, it IS the gold standard for lume. I can attest to that because it beats my other watches by a mile. My son uses his black monster as a bedside night clock capable of being read easily in good darkness and a groggy pair of eyes. Something else you might want to know about your Seiko monster: when the hour hand and minute hand align perfectly at say 12, 3:15, 6:30 and 8:45, the overlap resembles a rocket in flight. The rotor is also smaller so that there is a lower probability of early damage from frequent internal wear and tear. The tradeoff here on a smaller rotor is that power reserve is only about 24 hours. |

I haven't found anything that glows brighter than my OM either but then again, I don't have many high-end watches.....yet :D so I'm glad to get feedback from people who own or have owned more expensive watches. As for the rocket ship, I've seen that mentioned in other forums and I quietly enjoy the image whenever I happen to glance at my watch and the two are overlapping. --Paulie |

Now that I am the proud owner of a Sea Devil I would like to state that I am also VERY happy with the Lume. I just did the "bask it in ambient light and walk into a dark hallway test" here at work and it glows nicely. The OM is still king but the SD is darned close. Now all I need is a watch winder for the OM because I think the SD will be my daily wear for a while. Anyone have any recommendations for a decent winder for under $150?? |
