U.S. Customs is holding my Megalodon for two reasons. The first is its declared value ($50 which in fact is under valued). Customs has valued the watch at $1000 dollars, way over valued. When I asked how they determined this they said on the web (that watch is the second generation which has no preorder discount) So I have to have the Ralf or Steve send an updated invoice. The second reason is the case it comes in. The Customs official believed it to be exotic and illegal, when in fact it is man made. So a U.S. Fish and Wildlife inspector is going to have to clear it, "sometime within the next two weeks". Bottom line no watch and no clue when it will get here.crap.gif Anyone else having problems with U.S. Customs?

That's crazy...I have probably had 50+ watches shipped from outside the US and have never had one held up in customs...that really sucks crap.gif

Unfortunately there is probably nothing you can do but whatever they say you need to do and follow their instructions to the letter.

Bad luck PXM! It just happened that some zellish guy wanted to show some power in the customs... Now he can go home and tell to his wife and kids that he's the Man and that people can't escape him... Poor fagg.

I have never heard of U.S customs doing this because we do not pay Customs tax in the U.S.unless it is fedex overnight and that is a fedex charge... phone #'s are only required for overnight delivery and not mandatory... the Megs came Fedex Int'l priority...all of the Megs coming into the U.S more than likely came through the same hub and so far none of us have had this happenface4.gif

How did you guys find out about these being held in customs? I don't even have a tracking number on mine and I've emailed Steve at Benarus a few times with no luck (he replies, but no tracking number).

I can't email Ralf - his email is private on his profile. Can you PM it to me - Fedex has no record of anything coming to my address, so I'd like to get to the bottom of this quickly and get it resolved.

everyone Please do not start a panic ....as mentioned above all you have to do is call Fedex....different countries will have different experiences due to their Customs dept. so let's not start any confusion or start thinking the worst scenarios over one persons post.;)

I did call FedEx and followed the above (gave my phone number and a declared value of $50) and was told it was a U.S. Customs issue as I stated, perceived exotic case and a value of $1000 based on the Benarus web site. I was told by FedEx that they need a "updated" invoice form Benarus before the watch is released/clears from customs. I am not trying to cause a panic, just thought I would share info and try to see if anyone else was having the same problem..

Remember all what was said: The megs are shipped in order of them series. Mean that if you got the nr 99 or nr 100, you should be the last guys who receive it... Well, that's how I understood it. So I know that I must be patient with my 73...

I spoke with Ralf early this morning and he said all of the Megs have been shipped within the past 3 days but he was not sure if the factory shipped according to # as started or name by which payments were recieved as many did not pay until the announcement was made that shipping had begun....rest assured you willl all recieve your Megalodons! hand6.gif

I also want to make a note that Fedex released a "bad/inclemant weather delay" on most all shipments in the U.S due to the snow storms many of us are experiencing which include Airport closings and delays due to the weather...:(

I called FedEx as well.  They did not find my address in their system.  I guess we're both on the same boat to nowhere.

Every so often Customs will get bent on a declared value or lack of a declaration. This happened to me when receiving my Precista from the UK recently. I had to have Eddie Platts contact US customs as well as calling at least five times myself. Very sticky and I empathize with your frustration having the watch so close but held in Customs.

Meg #7 checking in.  Mine arrived at work today (US/VA) with no problems.  However, the outer cardboard box was covered with tape that said "OPENED AND RESEALED FOR U.S. FISH AND WILDFILE INSPECTION" (as well as a sticker advising it had cleared US Customs and Border Protection.)  I'm sure this is the sort of thing Steve was referring to when he said he preferred to handle receipt of watches himself instead of having them come from the factory.  I'm sure everything will get sorted out.  :)

Well I got my tracking # from Ralf and it turns out that my watch is stuck in customs limbo.  FedEx apparently doesnt know why its being held nor do they know when its going to be released.  This is not a happy day for me :X

This Customs thing sounds like a nightmare.  It sounds almost like a customs agent locked onto one shipment and then flagged every shipment from that particular address.  Sounds like paranoia but what are the odds of so many watches, out of only 100, being held in customs?

There's probably a tighter custom check after the failed bomb attempt on the flight...

That could be a possibility or it could be bureaucratic incompetence.

The bomb theory won't wash my watch was held in customs on the 22nd of December. It is being released today or tomorrow, Fish and Wildlife had to insure it wasn't an exotic case mistake.gif

I heard from Ralf and my watch doesn't have a tracking number (not sure how that happened), so he's checking into things with Fedex.  Hope to hear more soon.

Well guys all i can say is DON'T PANIC!

I called FedEx today and was also told that I had nothing in the system.
Not ten minutes later I receive an email that another package I have been waiting for was to be delivered today but no one was around to sign for it.

This made a bot suspicious so I called FedEx again. They confirmed that the package from Houston was in their possession and another delivery attempt would be made tomorrow. I told them that I thought this was strange because the online tracking said the TX package was still in transit with an expcted delivery date of 12/30. They did some checking and then apologized profusely. It turns out the attempted delivery was for my Benarus from HK and not the TX PACAKAGE as they had originally told me!

I have no idea how they could confuse two shipments that are so dis-similar?

My suggestion for this of you that called an received a negative response........ Call 'em again!

i found out today that customs recieved the paper work needed for the declared value, now fish and game has to inspect the packaging to make sure it is not real gator. fed ex said they would be there today to do this. i tell ya there is nothing worse than knowing my meg is less than 100 miles from me and has been since the 22nd. i hope to see it in person in the next day or two ??

Just wanted to give you guys a update on my FedEx delivery.  I was told yesterday my Megadolon was held up for customs in the South but to my utter surprise it was delivered to me this morning in the West Coast.   Good luck to you guys still waiting and dont forget to call the FedEx Intl office twice a day to nudge them along.

I just provided Fed Ex with all the break out pricing I could for the 2 stuck in California, plus I provided paypal records of the final payment to show it was not $1,000 and I explained to them a lot of details of our business and how we work online in the forums.

I spoke with the fish and game guy on the phone and he was very nice and I emailed him macro photos of the box to show the repeating pattern. He emailed me back and said everything was fine and he would tell FedEx to release the watch... but the next day I got a call from Fed Ex and they said customs was not going to release it because they still think it was sold at $1,000

This is why I provided more details today and payment records. I also provided a link to the thread "Megalodon Will Come" from back in May 09 stating that it will be $650 for 1 week. I am not sure if a link to a 3T thread will help with customs, but at this point I am giving them every detail I can.

The Fed Ex agent said he won't be able to discuss this with customs again until Monday.
