Ralf and I have been working on this design for a while and I want to post it now, even though this is still early and these designs are subject to change.

Benarus Remora
    • 42mm case
    • Hooded lugs
    • Gloss black dial, blue dial, C3 dial, black/orange lume dial
    • Ceramic bezel
    • New 9015 by Miyota
    • Presidential bracelet or mesh (bracelet design in progress)

Very nice, the new 9000 series Miyota's are going to be really sweet, can't wait to see more of this one!!!  I'm really liking the C3 dial version, is that black/grey lume on the hands?

Nice guys ThumbsUp02.gif I like the black/orange also...I'm guessing, because of the hooded lugs this may wear a little bigger than 42mm Thumbsup3.gif

The Remora will have 30mm of glass.

The Worldiver has about 33mm, the Moray is 34mm, Sea Devil 32mm, 1km 28mm.

also the Remora will have 22mm lugs like the Worldiver and 1km.

the hands on all of these are not final yet, but the lume dial will have solid black, whether we fill them with paint, or have them made solid, we are not sure yet. Ralf is going to be working on all the details with the factory very soon.

It looks very nice!  If the Miyota 9015 movement hacks & hand-winds, I'm probably going to be down with a black/orange one.

The Remora is looking great! At first I didnt think I liked the idea of hooded lugs, but the more I see it, the more it is growing on me.

I really like the orange/ black combo.

While i think 42mm is an awesome size, something about the design isn't doing it for me.

it will be a scratch proof ceramic bezel. with a ceramic bezel you can't have lume numbers, only a lume dot that is drilled through the tough ceramic.

Thanks for your feedback, more info would be helpful... are you talking about the case, the black dial, blue dial, C3 dial, or orange design? I welcome constructive criticism on this.

Steve

Though I'm not a fan of this type of cushion case design, this is a beautiful watch! This looks super 70's to me! I'm imagining having a drink by the pool at the villa, getting a call from the phone on a tray my butler brought over, and hopping in the Lotus and driving to the dive boat. Wearing this watch.

Personally (although it is my favorite dial color) I would drop the blue dial on this and go for either brushed steel or some kind of warmer color like brown, red, maroon, or orange. Though an orange dial on this may be a little to Doxa-ish. An option with polished case and hands would look great though!

Steve,

I think there are two elements that don't sing to me,
1. the bezel insert - i am not a fan of the "small print"
2. the dot markers on the dial seem a bit cartoonish and don't
match up with the numerals although i like the "toothy" dial of the pvd-orange

it would be cool to see the inverse of that.. ie orange dial, with black markers...

Cheers,
Q

ok, on a ceramic bezel, the engraving needs to be thin like this, it is hard material to cut into. The hole drilled at 12 will be filled with lume, big and bright. In my opinion too many have a dot (pip) that is too small, I designed it bigger than what I see out there on other watches.

also notice it is the same size as the dots on the dial.

Personally, I am digging the blue. That could be because I do not have a blue dial watch in the stable at this time. There is something amiss but I cannot put my hand on it at the moment. Might be the hands. more pics please.

could you make a stainless version with the black/orange combo?

I really like the dial color combo, just not pvd.

Also, what price range do you have in mind?

As always we are trying to keep the price as low as we can. I have learned not to post pricing on forums because people read it back to me when the price goes up, but we are shooting for pricing similar to the Sea Devil and Moray.

Ask Ralf if I can get credit for the name. I suggested it before the Moray name was chosen, and I think my suggestion was poo-pooed because it was essentially a parasite.

Where are the detractors now? Hmmm? ;)

This is a gorgeous watch. I'd like to parasite one off Ralf, myself.

How about some more exotic colors like lime green or red. Or some color we've never seen in a watch before. I'm really enjoying my seafoam Moray.

I will experiment with more colors, they will probably not make the cut for round 1, but we will have a round 2 on this one.

I will post them here as well.

I really hope the final design will have different hands. I like ladder hands too but it seems you guys use it for almost every model. From a design or function stand point those ladder hands don't even work that well with the dial design.
So out of the 4 I choose the black/orange combo since its something new and fresh with the hour markers and the hands.

Will this be available in finish options, I've been wanting a Benarus in a bead blasted case.  Also, will the blue be a darker blue, like the sea devil, or more on the lighter side similair to the Moray ?

I'm torn between the lume dial and the black orange combo at the moment.  But the blasted blue combo would be very nice imo.

I'll be watching this thread with anticipation....

The blue is darker and different from the Sea Devil and the Moray, it is Pantone 7462. Since computer monitors are all different and the color can't be represented accurately on screen, you can look up the color in a Pantone color book. If you don't have access to a Pantone color book, you can stop by a Kinkos and ask to see one. The dial will most likely be a glossy ceramic to compliment the glossy ceramic bezel.

By that-do you mean that the bezel will match the dial in color? or in finish only?

What kind of lume will the orange/black be using? Obviously not C3. The reason I ask is that my personal experience with orange lume has not been good. A long time ago I bought a Wenger orange on black and the lume on it is the worst ever. At night, it's almost as if there is no lume at all! I know that some of this has to do with how thick the layer of lume is but in general orange lume is just not that bright.

also the Remora will have 22mm lugs like the Worldiver and 1km.

Here is another idea using colored lume on the dial, the bezel on these will also be ceramic with painted numbers, not lume numbers on the bezel.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!!!  Something really special about the blue on black combo.  Please seriously consider making this one!  Please don't make orange/black, blue/black, AND red/black.  I would have to get all three and my wife would kill me!

we will have more 44, 45, and 47mm watches in the near future, but we do not have a 42mm and need one in our line up.

The blue black combo looks very nice !....I wonder if these black dial and black bezel variations will be mostly for PVD cases ? I'm interested in a blasted case, and curious how these will look....opinions.

Personally, I like the Benarus minimal approach on the date window, and wouldn't want it any other way. I don't want attention drawn to the date window.

I see what you're saying; but I'd still rather have some more finishing (doesn't have to be metallic like the Baliha'i), or no date.  I'd like a no date version (just dreaming).

I've haven't heard much talk about the bracelet on this new design.  I'm hoping for the presidential style.....just thought i'd chime in, eager to see a CAD drawing with the bracelet incorporated.

Any thoughts on a blue dial with very green lume (c7)? I think it might be something different. Very cool case design, and I am glad you guys are going after the 42mm market.

42mm is a bit too small for me but looks like a really cool watch.
Really like the orange/black & blue/black.

we are still working on the hands and will post drawings when we can get them. The bracelet drawings will be posted soon as well. we will make 4 dials for the first series, and 4 different dials for the next series. so we will also finalize the 4 for series 1 soon.

Looks great Steve! If I had one wish I hope a no date version is an option, the dart dials a just too cool looking! The date window takes away from the clean cutting edge look. Just my opinion. thumbsup.gif

ok, as with the bronze Moray, I will talk to Ralf about doing a reservation list and seeing how many people would not want the date window, and maybe we can order extra dials that do not have the date window for those that would commit to buying it in the reservation period.

Again the dart dial is fantastic!

I wondered why it was reduced in size compared to the Moray.

Also why not do the DLC for people who are willing to pay the additional cost. It looks better and it corrects the most common reason people don't choose the PVD!

Here is a rendering of the first 4 dials with the new hands. We will produce these 4 dials first and we will include the Benarus Mesh bracelet with the watch. This is my rendering and not the factory, so some details may be subject to change.

Why not have the seconds hand reach the edge of the dial so it follows the bezel markings around?

I will put the info on our website and start a reservation list for those that would like to choose the case finish and date / no date window.

it does... well, it is as close as we will go. any closer and there could be problems with assembly. these are my renderings, there could be small changes with the real sample watches.

also realize the marks on the bezel are "minute marks" for keeping time and tracking time with the bezel. a stop watch or chronograph would need "seconds" marks, but not this simple diver with vintage styling.

Is the reservation list via this thread, or do we contact you through the website to get on the list?

Wow, love the dart dial design.
Black/orange for me. But Black/blue is also good.
Hmmmm. Tough to decide.

Great looking so far. ;)

Hey Steve, how about orange dial w/blue darts, or blue dial w/orange darts.
Different colored hands could be interesting too.

Thanks, Dave.

any chance we are going to get to see a prototype before the reservation period is over. would def. like to see real pics instead of a computer mock up before I decide.

The discount price is for those that can pay a deposit in the next 2 weeks. the deposit is refundable if one chooses to cancel at any time. You don't need to pay a deposit to get on the list, but you won't get the special price offer.

I will be taking reservations until the spots run out, then I will make a back up list.

The sample watches will be shown before the watches are finished and shipped, but that will not be in the next 2 weeks during the discount opportunity.

Every watch we have made, the comment comes up that the real thing is better than the drawings. usually from someone that skipped out on a preorder because they couldn't visualize the real thing.

True that. Very very rarely can any pic truely give a watch justice.

Will there be a pre-order for the 2nd round?  I'm pretty bummed the lume dial didn't make the cut and hoping it shows up in the next iteration.

The good news is I will be getting 2 complete samples of the Remora very soon to photograph. The bad news is that the factory is behind on final delivery and we are looking at late November early December.

This is typical of production and that is why I just said "Fall 2010" in the beginning because I can't say when they will actually be ready, that is impossible to guarantee.

I am pretty new to this, but have found myself checking this forum daily for any news of my pre-orders. My PVD black with numbers will have a homecoming when it ships - I live in Hong Kong...

Tempted by a Seiko Sumo every time I walk by the many watch shops here, but there is something different with the boutique brands - Steve is great and Miyota 9015 plus ceramic are very exciting.

Cheers
