Hello All, This is certainly a great forum you all have here. I stumbled across it on my way to finding my latest timepiece. I've been reading through the many pages of information along with the fantatic photos you have gathered here. I have just receivced my first real "automatic" watch. Until now, I have been gathering my little collection (maybe 20 chronographs) from the offerings that Seiko has had in their quartz line over the past 20 years or so. Of course I have a few Bulovas and a Hamilton or two, even a few low priced Kenneth Coles, and a Givenchy. All are quartz. I am an engineer (electrical) so I'm naturaly fascinated by the mechanics that make a watch function, but the accuracy of quartz has always been important to me too. I find myself at a crossroad. Mechanical complexity or quartz accuracy? Whatever is next, it has to be a chronograph, and it has to have heavy duty action buttons. The Seikos have been great over the years, but I always wear out the pusher contacts. They're just too light duty for my use. I saw an Oris Artelier on a TV show, and I just had to have the chronograph model. Now I have one. and I'm looking for ideas for my next gift to myself. I find that I prefer a more modern look with traditional Arabic numbers. (sorry I don't lilke the Roman numerals). I hope that I don't offend anyone, but it's just my preference. With your permission, I will probably place another post in the general forum so that I can get some recommendations from the entire group. I'm not sure what kind of readership there is in the new user's forum. Thank you all for forming a group where serious watch people can gather. I only hope that I can measure up to fit into the group. It's so sad trying to shop at stores like Sam's club that has the products, but hasn't got the staff to support the sales knowledge. It's great to have a place like this where so many watch enthusiasts can share ideas. ~John

Welcome friend! Glad to see another Chrono fan...but I must ask; what do you use the watches for such that you wear out the pushers? That is some heavy use indeed! :D

I guess I just wear them hard. I am constantly active with my hands. I am a working electrical engineer, not a autocad desktop engineer. I work in and around a high RF (radio frequency) environment frequently and use the chrono function to measure individual process times and make comparisons. My last Seiko was a titanium chrono. Within less than a year the start/stop pusher had seized up (or in if you look at it that way). Its so typical, I only get about a year out of my "daily" watch. It may be the oils from my body are like epoxy. I have had this problem for a long time. I am rough with them. I also use a regular stopwatch , and a backwards counting timer. The watches I save for weekends are fine, but my daily wear watch is always a problem. My last (quartz) purchase was an ESQ chrono, it has much larger pusher buttons, and the buttons actually have a much shorter actuation stroke and a larger diameter surface than the miniature ones used on your average Seiko. So far the ESQ is 6 months old, and no problems. I guess I just time a lot of things, probably more than the average chrono user. Maybe I'm just a chronograph freak!!! I only have 3 watches that are not chronographs and they were all gifts. Thank you all for the very warm welcome. In the next few weeks I'll try to get my Nikon out and start to take pictures of what I have. Many thanks again!
