I think they're ok but are on the feminine side. If targetted to be sold to the ladies (young segment), I think they will sell.

Have you tried crooked hands. Might be more avant garde.

Design is okThumbsUp02.gif

Not sure I understand... Is this a design for a real watch?   Or just for the computer like the one on the left of this board?  crap.gif

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, the virtual clocks here are better but if you can tell us what you are trying to do maybe we could comment better?

Thanks all! I would like to make it into a real (clock/watch) for competition.

A bit rusted your Norwegian Graham but I understood: You need to drink some cod liver oildog smile.gif

Overclock: How can you clock's hands shrink and grow when following the irregular dial in reality?
If they were telescopics(with spring) and follow a smooth curved dial border, the resulted friction between the hand tip and dial border would still be tiring the movement and modifie totally it's regularity... You can't avoid this fact.
It would be the same problem if the telescopic parts would be influenced by a rail system under them: Irregular friction inflicted on the pinion and then the rest of the movement.
Then, they should push in and out automaticaly???
If it can be achieved for a wrist watch, this kind of advanced micro ingineering(if possible to develop) would be out of reach for 99.9% of the world population...$$$$$$$
Or maybe this clock should be huge: Like a train station clock with timed pistons??whichone.gif
If you cut this feature, the all thing is gone: Stays only a "star" dial and not much new thing...??
Good luck.

have to agree, if you are going wacky then go wacky! Dont put straight black hands on a flower shaped face, put pink and orange wiggly ones on

The problem isn't visual Russell: After realisation, it could be of any color or similar shapes....
The problem is mechanical and as I see it: I guess that an existing watch movement , quartz or mechanical hasn't enough torque to ignore totally the friction produced by the hands who would be stressed by a border or rail changing them length.
A watch pinion can't be under stress when impulsed by a usual movement: It false all impulses and time accuracy it was regulated for.
But!
Urwerk came out with the 202 Twin-turbine hammerhead few years ago: There, the hands are switching length across the dial.
It's a rail system engraved in the dial who influence the pin coming in and out of the hollow hand.
Well, there's not only this feature in fact, as it's one of somes who are really amazing.
The thing is that when you achieve such engineering works, you can't sell the result "cheap"...
You will observe the rail system on this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLTBnIszCLE&feature=related
I let you observe the watch itself on Urwerk.com where you can see the rail on the dial and the hands with different length.
You can also click on the left and be explain the all stuff with the mechanism decomposed and see again the video: http://www.urwerk.com/watches_202.asp

All of this isn't new: Just very challenging for anybody who wouldn't be a micro-mechanical engineer genious(or a team of them) with extremly large funds behind...

I observed "copyright" on your dials or do I misread? How can you write this if you didn't depose any patenting on the design? If you want to copy Urwerk's design: You should be aware of design and copyrights laws.
Otherwise, you'll forever be a pirate spraying lawless country products...
Seriously, making it cheap and still 100% functional/precise is just a dream in my eyes...

I'm going to agree with Will on this one. While the idea isn't necessarily that far fetched, the engineering that would have to go into it is nearly impossible for someone who is not already both a watch master and micro-mechanical engineer. To essentially eliminate the effects of friction is no small engineering feat.

Then there is also the patent issue. You will probably find that there is quite a portfolio of patents out there for an idea such as yours, but not in production due to the extreme cost to actually produce something such as this.

Also regarding your design and the above mentioned factors - Making a design with less curves or less sharply designed curves would make some of the issues more manageable. If you do design it with either a pin riding on the underside or simply spring loaded hands, the extreme change in a curve will introduce quite a bit of force.

A mechanical engineer with some knowledge of watches or micro-engineering could probably do this or help you, but when you're talking about probably micro-Newtons or less, the little things matter.

Edit: Putting copyright on the dials is completely useless anyways, you have nothing patentable with what you have there.  A mere idea is not useful.
