The Seiko SKX173 has rectangles at 6 & 9
True that!
Maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying here, but they all look like they have chrome edged hands to me?
Seems like the 399 shares the same 'meatball at the rear' seconds hand as the SKX007, the SKX173 has the meatball at the front though.
SKX173 has the narrower base too.
Yes, I agree with that.
Well...I learned a bunch here Jeff! I think your observations are mostly true when comparing the SKX399 to the more common SKX007, but if you compare it to the also more common SKX173 (which was produced with the USA market in mind) I think a few of these points are a little bit off (see my comments in blue above). No disrespect intended amigo! Here's a pic of the fairly common SKX173 And a Pic of the most common SKX007 Last edited on Fri Jul 15th, 2011 08:02 pm by stew77 |

Lools great Jeff. Congrats!! Gotta get me one! I gave my 007 away, this would make a great replacement:)

Thanks guys and Chris. No problemo, amigo. My comparisons were vs the usual 007 and 009 and similar others though and I like your points. I'm now grappling whether to send this for some modding and get the Rally bezel on it, like Exc-Hulk's mod. But I might as well get the 007 for that and keep this little one in the drawer. William (Sheriff), yes, this 7S26-0020 isn't made in Japan. They're now made in China, Malaysia etc. But I have lots of friends with watches on 7S26 and they're just so reliable and tough....maybe not very accurate but for those prices, well worth the effort. My sister in law in Texas bought a simple Seiko 5 Sports in Asia in 2000 and didn't even know how to care for it. She's raised 5 boys, taken it to the pool, boating, fishing, snorkelling etc etc and to this day the watch is still beating quite accurately. I was amazed with her stories about her watch. So I guess these little babies, underpromise and overdeliver

God knows you know all these Seiko models inside and out better than I do, and I'm very envious of the fact that you get to stomp around the best world selection of all these great Seikos in your travels. I absolutely agree...these guys underpromise and overdeliver, and that cannot be said about very many watch models and brands for that matter. Only my opinion, but if you are going to go for a rally bezel mod, I would definitely pick up a 007 and save your 399 for wearing and 'hanging out in the drawer' if you must, but definitely keep the 399 as is...all IMO!

I like that, "under-promise over deliver" The only minor complaint I've ever had with my 7s26es is they seem to be poorly adjusted out of the box but all they have ever needed was a couple seconds on the timing machine for some minor adjustment... Just in case you want to wander through all my lightly modded Seiko's... http://s58.photobucket.com/albums/g248/OldeCrowsCreations/Seiko%20Alba/ And I haven't touched my 399 yet either, still on the rubber strap even! I thought I might at least do a sapphire without AR just to keep the glass a bit cleaner over time but my favorite mod is plongeur hands I don't know if I will be able to keep them off of it once I actually start playing with it! the A35 is another with the square markers!

Very cool Seiko mods you have done there Chris! Thanks for posting up the link and sharing. I do like the plongeur style hands on these Seikos as well...cool stuff!
