Hi all. I don't know if this has been mentioned here before but I picked up some traffic on another forum regarding plumber's tape, that thin white tape that we wrap around pipe ends/faucet stems to aid in tightening/leaking. Well, guess what? There's this guy there who said you can wrap your lugs/lug ends with some of that tape so that when you use your screwdrivers, the tape acts as an "insulator" that minimizes scratches. That's pretty cool and makes lots of sense. I'll try it soon.:)

Cool Tip

Plumbers tape is most commonly known as Metal Strapping with holes in itmistake.gif We use it to Strap down gas lines, etc....

I was a little worried there, until I thought about it.

Teflon Tape is the commonly known Thread Tape that we use, so now I see your Point hand6.gifyourock.gif

Thanks for the tip

Cheers

Never had any reparing tape like that in my hand so I don't know how it look like...
Even after 17 years in pipefitting....
We cut and weld or the head fall off in the chief's office!!!subtlelaugh.gif
Guess, it's used mostly by people who want to temporary fix them little water pipe.
But I was on skyscrapers and big stuffs before I get on oil plants
I know the teflon tape offcourse: But it's very thin and much more expensive than painter-tape...
I would go as Darkman

Bingo, Huck! That's it: TEFLON TAPE. After using it to mask the lugs and other sensitive parts of the watch, it can easily be removed and the watch has lesser to zero scratches.

Hammerfjord, I won't call on you to ever "cut and weld" my watch, ok?toon1.gif

Hammerfjord, I won't call on you to ever "cut and weld" my watch, ok? : Said Bigrusty.

Hehehe, no Bigrustypig, I've stoped welding years ago anyway: Just piping and bolting now.
But if you need to screw your deep-divingwatch, I got certificate for until 700 bars hytorc boltingtoon1.gif

Enough jokes, I must say that the teflon tape trick sounds really good: But I would recommand to go around the lugs at list 5 times or more to get enough thickness for protecting the lugs...ThumbsUp02.gif
Because it's generaly thin that teflon and it crack easyly in the lenght. But not so easyly in the width.
So a thin screw-driver would go through it like a knife if you don't get enough thickness(rounds) ;)

Yup. I agree. Maybe 5 turns with that tape should be very good. I also remember seeing that light-bluish shade of teflon. I think that's very good too. Regards, amigo.:)
