I've searched through the archives and there are some very knowledgable members who owned first generation of Gevril watches here.

I was wondering if anyone had more information on the Limited edition Perpetual calendar which looked extremely interesting because I do not see any pushers on the sides of the case.

Does anyone have any information on the movement?

How is it adjusted?  When was this model released?

Thank you in advance.

Mike

First off welcome to 3T. ;)

Now do you have a model number of link to the watch? Not familiar with one by that name.

Thank you for the welcome.

I'm sorry, I guess it was rude of me to be a new member and right away fire off questions.

I've attached a picture.

Thanks again, Mike

Just speculating, but I own a Louis Erard watch with a pointer date, Day of the Week indication, Month of the Year indication and moon phase. It's powered by an ETA 2824 movement with a Dubois Depraz module to handle the specialized date functions. The (four) pushers to adjust the various indicators are integrated into the case and are activated with a special tool provided for the purpose, or I guess you could use a ballpoint pen if necessary. Looking down at the watch as if you were checking the time, the pushers are not visible. Only when looking at the watch from the side do they become evident.

I would bet that your Gevril watch probably uses a similar arrangement.

As a collector of first generation Gevril, this is one that I want but, will most likely never be able to afford. There were only 50 made, mostly in gold so it is quite rare and very expensive when they rarely come to market.  There have been a couple listed in the last year on eBay but even in steel, was out of my league.

I have the original Gevril catalog which lists this watch but gives no technical information about the movement and since it was a late addition to the Gevril line, it is not mentioned in the Gevril cocktail table book, which was published at the time the brand was launched. I have a feeling that it is most likely an ETA movement that Gevril modified as most of the other first generation product was.

There are only two first generation items missing from my collection, this is one and the day date is the other. Maybe someday......

Mike, Welcome to 3T. I know very little about Gevril but that watch you attached and Clyde's comments are pushing me to really look at the brand a lot. That is an excellent gentleman's watch, by the way.

the movement used in this watch would more than likely be a Dubois-Depraz 9200/ETA 2824...or some variation and the pushers are probably recessed ....does anyone have a model # hand6.gif

Thanks for the link to the article.

Unfortunately it doesnot mention the perpetual calendar model.  I suspect like Clyde mentionned below that it was a late addition.

Best, Mike

Thanks Nighthawk.  I don't have the images at work but the side profile views don't show any pushers.

That's the reason it caught my eye.  The only mechanical perpetual calendars that I know of which do not use pushers are the IWC/UN models which were based on a Lemania movement.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks Clyde for looking into your books for me.

I really appreciate this since Gevril has been flamed by other enthusiasts in the past.

There were very interesting models, some ahead of the times with the older generation models.

Best, Mike
