So I've found my 1st Grail watch. I want to buy it, but I just can't justify the money. What does everyone else do when they find "that watch"? Do they find a good homage watch or just suck it up and let the credit card to the talkin?

By the way this is my first grail

Ah, the Kermit sub. A worthy grail indeed.yourock.gif

As for a grail, if you want it bad enough you'll get it one way or the other. You may sell off others in your collection or another asset you have. The credit card thing is tempting but dangerous. It is up to you to make it happen.:D

Well, 1st you try to find it from a known reliable preowned dealer....watches (yes, even Rolex) are like cars...once you drive them off the lot, there is substantial depreciation.

Thankfully I haven't tried it on, so that bug hasn't bitten me that bad yet. But there's one right downtown and it looks sooooooo goooood. What are your first grails?

I guess I'm strange in that regard...I don't think in terms of "grails"...just watches I'd like to have!

My first grail watch was the Breitling Bentley. Alas, i never got it but after some heavy research and shopping I found that the Super Avenger was a comparable in size and more reasonably priced. After chasing quite a few different leads I found one 100 miles away. After that I got into boating a feel in love with the Corum Admirals Cup 48. I paid way too much for it, and hence, never wear it. It sits in the winder. I was so impressed with Breitling I recently ( 4 days ago) purchased a Chronomat from my local AD...and love it. Next up is a Rolex. After my divorce, that is. Hahahahasubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gifsubtlelaugh.gif

When I find my next grail, I really save up for it and try not to be diverted by "minor" watches but sometimes that's hard to do (keep eyes off the "minors") because when some funds are on the ready, some other watches start talking to memistake.gif.

I've already found my grail watch.

It is a 1900 Zenith Grand Prix pocket watch
from the Paris World's Fair. The watch is
being serviced by Zenith in Switzerland,
I aspect that it will arrive by the end of
August. Stayed Tuned for the update.

This watch was actually my second choice after
the Longines Grand Prix pocket watch, but it
took to many years to look for one.
The price of the Longines that was going for
was a little above the stratosphere.

This too is my ultimate grail.  For some reason, Rolex has always been "the watch" to have for me.  I've seen these in person, and no picture can do it justice.  With a combination of the Sea Dweller face (large markers) and that green bezel, WOW!  There is a savings pile for this which has grown little by little over the past 3.5 years.

I was wondering if anyone else took that option. The debaufre looks pretty nice and is pretty affordable in comparison. I'm not sure if spending 10 times the price will give me 10 times the satisfaction.

Stu sounds like you're probably getting pretty close. How do you have the discipline to save for so long? I am impressed! I keep finding too many cool things to buy. Watches, motorcycle stuff, camera stuff, RC planes....

Andy
