So it seems my Ocean 1 44 Magnum's battery has run down. It kept perfect time until the second hand hung up and just slightly tried to move but couldn't. It now has completely stopped any movement. I took the watch to my local Jared's to have the battery replaced and they said they cannot replace because then the watch would not be water resistant anymore. So they want to Charge $30 to ship it to "their guy" then $15 for the battery, then $99 to make sure its water resistant again. This just sounds a little exorbitant to me for replacing the battery, in fact its more than half of what I paid for the watch. The watch is still under the two year Debaufre warranty but batteries are not covered, which is the only thing I believe at this point is wrong.

Any suggestions? I've replaced batteries before in other watches and never had issues with them leaking afterwords but I do not have the correct tool to remove the rear cover and don't want to void any warranty I have left.  Thanks

Jareds is full of it :D...as long as you align the rubber o-ring gasket and tighten that caseback down you will be fine ....you can take it to another jeweler that has a repairman on staff or try one of the kiosks in the mall that replace batteries....I believe Kay jewelers charge under $20. with a lifetime warranty hand6.gif

That's right! A real watch-maker or competent jeweler would have make it easyly for "peanuts price"... There's a lot of money-suckers on the market but beware: There's a lot of wannabees who do sabotage your watch when they change the battery...
Jared's not the place... You'll know for next time
;)

Agree with the comments above. Take it somewhere else. I do my own battery changes. But, I take my wife's to a jeweler down the street. They charge $7.95 including the battery. As long as the O-ring is properly set in, you will be fine.

Thanks everyone. I thought they were full of it but just wanted confirmation from some other more reliable sources.

Battery replaced and all is perfect again hand6.gif
I hope this battery lasts a bit longer than the original.
This thing almost eats batteries faster than my Accutron RR 218
