Hard to tell, Tony, because of the light and angle. If this is a copy, it is one heck of a good copy. What I can spot though is that the lug hood is a little thinner than what it sould be and the print style of the bezel is a wee bit off. The brushing of the case is also very good and if a fake, can even fool mecoyote2.gif

Tony, the dead giveaway? The date window is bigger than what it should be and the print style on the date disc is off.

What do you think, amigo? How'd you get this photo?

Posted on another forum Jeff. I'm not an expert for sure, but does not rolex inscribe there name around the chapter ring, or is that only on certain models?

the ceramic that Rolex uses on their bezels is supposed to be indestructible and the best there is....it would be kinda hard if at all to get a bezel that chewed up as in this pic? coyote2.gif

Good point, Tony. Rolex stamps its brand on chapter rings of the new models and the smaller ones like the Daytona, GMT II, Sub, Datejust etc. For the DSSD, for example, which is already a little busy on the chapter ring department, they don't.

Oscar is also right. Rolex makes their ceramic bezel inserts virtually indestructible. The only way this featured watch got that damage is a motorcycle accident the the wearer dashed his watch on pavement but then again....why no damage to the case? Ceramic is also virtually impervious to acid and the damage on the photo doesn't look like a chemically-induced "sunburn".

Thanks for this post.

I can see one "ROLEX" inside the chapter-ring just above "RING"... I guess that the light effect mask the other...?

The ceramic bezel is not "scratch-proof" it's stated as "Highly scratch resistant".

Saying that a sapphire crystal is scratchproof is a wrong appelation allready.

In my opinion: Offcourse a ceramic bezel is scratchable, just ripp it against concrete or sharp steel...Don't forget that what is making the concrete dangerous to watches is not the cement but the stones who are mixed inside to reenforce the structure.

You'll find very hard and sharp stones as flints and granit pieces inside for exemple...

I see it, as there is no material who can claim to be scratch-proof, as to form this material, you have to generaly cut it anyhow.

A such hard material would be of no use at all if it would stay only at it's native state: Unattackable...

Hard to say but I do know some guys do use their Rolex as a hard core tool watch. But then that is what they are made to really be. They just got popular and pricey.

That looks like the real McCoy to me.  If held at that angle, my (real) DSSD's date window appears similiar.
